For the Nations DC offers hope and help to our immigrant neighbors by teaching English, providing practical assistance, and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.

Work Location, Hours, and Compensation: You will serve at our ministry site in Alexandria (2932 King St, Alexandria, VA 22302). 

This is a part-time position, 9 - 15 hours per week.

• The core work hours for this role are: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday  9:00am - 12pm
• There may be additional hours from 8 - 9 am or 12 - 1pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to help with setup, lesson planning, or special events. 
• There may be additional hours available on Mondays for setup.

Our ministry year runs late-August to the beginning of June. There may be additional opportunities for work in June and July.

Note: 

• We welcome applications for those wanting to bring one child, ages 2.5 to 5 with them to class. 
• We welcome applications for high schoolers, ages 16 -18, who have a schooling option that works around these hours. 

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide care for children ages 6 months - 5 years old 
• Treat all children with care and compassion
• Uphold safety standards
• Help lead age-appropriate activities that help children become familiar with English 
• Help children with toileting/diaper changes as needed
• Help with setup and cleanup of the childcare space, including sanitizing toys and play spaces
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and prayer times

Required Qualifications

• Christian in good standing with his/her local gospel-centered church
• Fully support the mission FTNDC
• Affirm FTNDC’s statement of faith
• Satisfactory background check
• Flexible to changing needs
• Physically able to perform tasks, including sitting on the floor, bending, standing, and moving tables and chairs during weekly setup and clean up of the space
• Must be able to lift children weighing up to 30 lbs regularly
• Enjoy working with children
• Calm, patient, and engaging demeanor
• Teamplayer
• Ability to understand and speak English at an intermediate level
• Child and Infant First Aid/CPR certification - can be obtained once hired

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in working with nonprofits and/or ministries
• Experience working in mixed-age group classrooms
• Experience working in multicultural communities
• Experience working with children in a formal educational environment 
• Educational background working in early childhood education
