Location: New York City (Hybrid: In-Classroom + Remote)

Start Date: Summer 2025

Compensation: Stipend-based or school credit (varies by placement)


About FoodStream Learn


FoodStream Learn is our DOE-certified food education initiative, delivering hands-on nutrition, culinary, and sustainability education to NYC Title One schools, including neurodiverse student populations.


FoodStream Learn Academy is a workforce development program that trains future food and nutrition educators through hands-on classroom experience, mentorship, and professional development. Interns support certified educators in Title One NYC schools, gaining real-world skills in teaching, culinary education, and community engagement.


Position Overview

We’re seeking a dynamic and driven Summer Intern to support both our classroom programs and research and policy initiatives. This hybrid role is ideal for students or early-career professionals pursuing studies in Nutrition, Public Health, Education, Food Studies, Policy, or Data Science who want meaningful field experience alongside resume-building research opportunities.


As an intern, you will:

  • Work directly in classrooms to assist educators in hands-on cooking and gardening programs.
  • Collaborate with our Project Manager and Education Team to enhance curriculum and program delivery.
  • Partner with our Data & Business Intelligence Analyst to gather data, write white papers and case studies, and support policy research that fuels FoodStream’s thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities


Classroom Support (In-Person, NYC)

  • Assist with food and nutrition classes for K–12 students in Title One schools across NYC
  • Help educators prepare ingredients, materials, and lesson plans.
  • Engage students in culinary, gardening, and food literacy activities.
  • Ensure safety, hygiene, and inclusivity in all classroom interactions.
  • Participate in pre/post-session debriefs and educator training workshops.


Research & Data (Remote/Hybrid)

  • Support data collection and evaluation of classroom program impact.
  • Conduct policy research related to food insecurity, nutrition access, and public education.
  • Draft case studies and white papers showcasing FoodStream’s community impact.
  • Collaborate on reports and content for publication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Analyze student engagement metrics and community feedback to inform program design.

  • Passionate about food justice, public health, education, and equity.
  • Comfortable working with diverse youth in classroom settings.
  • Proactive and adaptable, ready to take initiative and ask questions.
  • A strong communicator (written and verbal), able to summarize data and ideas clearly.
  • Organized, collaborative, and committed to making an impact.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Education, Culinary Arts, Policy, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children or youth in educational settings is a plus.
  • Bilingual (especially Spanish) highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with food systems, sustainability, and community health issues.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety or classroom facilitation preferred but not required.
