Foodstream Learn is seeking a Special Education Certified Food Nutrition and Cooking Educator to lead inclusive, hands-on cooking and nutrition programs in NYC public schools. This role is ideal for a passionate educator who can create adaptive, engaging learning experiences for neurodiverse students. You’ll bring food to life in the classroom; connecting culinary skills, sensory learning, and cultural awareness to foster healthier relationships with food.
This role focuses on instructional delivery and program execution, classroom supervision remains the responsibility of school staff.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver assigned educational sessions following Foodstream curriculum
- Prepare materials and set up for each session
- Coordinate logistics with Foodstream Program Managers
- Adapt lesson delivery as needed based on classroom timing and student needs
- Capture and submit session documentation (attendance, surveys, photos/videos)
- Follow school safety and emergency procedures
- Communicate promptly regarding scheduling, procurement, and program needs
Administrative Responsibilities
- Submit required attendance records and program surveys
- Share session media through designated platforms
- Complete procurement forms when required
- Submit invoices according to Foodstream guidelines
Compensation
- Day/session rate varies by program and experience
- Compensation includes session delivery, preparation time, routine communication, and local travel unless otherwise approved

Qualifications
Required
- Current background check.
- Experience working with students with neurological disabilities or special education needs.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in food education, nutrition, culinary arts, public health, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience teaching food education in school settings, preferably middle or high school.
- Strong expertise in classroom management, curriculum development, and student engagement.
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating with educators and administrators.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel between NYC boroughs, own vehicle is optional.
Preferred
- Certification as a Nutrition Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), or Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) from an accredited institution.
- Food Handler’s Permit or Food Safety Certification, Nutrition Education, or Public Health Nutrition.
- Teaching Certification or formal training in instructional methodologies, such as an Educator Certification, Teaching License, or relevant professional development courses in education.
- Experience in experiential or adaptive learning environments
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Compensation and Duration
- $40–$55 per hour (based on experience)
- Contractor position, renewable by semester
- Travel to schools within NYC required; ingredient expenses reimbursed with receipts
Hours & Contract Details
- Part-time contract position with flexible scheduling based on school program needs.
- Hourly compensation based on experience and qualifications.
