FoodStream Network (FSN) is a social impact organization tackling food insecurity through hands-on education, technology-driven solutions, and collaborative community programs. Our FoodStream Learn program brings nutrition and culinary education directly to schools, summer camps, food pantries, and more, helping communities build healthier, sustainable relationships with food.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for motivated and passionate Junior Nutrition Educators (Interns) to support our experienced educators in delivering engaging, hands-on nutrition and cooking programs for children and youth. This is a training-focused, mentorship-driven position, perfect for students, recent graduates, or early-career professionals in nutrition, health sciences, culinary arts, or education.


You’ll work side-by-side with our senior educators, gaining real-world experience in lesson planning, classroom management, and culinary education, while making a meaningful impact in local communities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist experienced educators during nutrition and cooking lessons at schools and community sites.
  • Help prepare classroom materials, ingredients, and lesson activities in advance.
  • Support students during food preparation activities, ensuring safety, hygiene, and engagement.
  • Lead small group activities, games, and discussions around nutrition, culture, and sustainability.
  • Participate in pre- and post-session briefings to reflect on lessons, student needs, and improvements.
  • Learn and help implement FoodStream’s education frameworks and best practices.
  • Emphasize teamwork, literacy, math skills, and sustainable practices during lessons.
  • Occasionally assist with light administrative tasks such as surveys, supply inventories, or lesson documentation.
  • Attend professional development workshops, trainings, and mentorship sessions offered through the FoodStream Academy Program.

  • Able to travel to various sites across NYC (public transportation costs reimbursed when applicable).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree or certification program in Nutrition, Dietetics, Culinary Arts, Public Health, Food Studies, Education, or a related field.
  • Basic food handling knowledge or certification (Food Handler’s Permit or equivalent) preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with children (e.g., camp counselor, tutor, volunteer) is a plus.
  • Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are highly desirable.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification a bonus.

Salary

$16 - $18 per hour
