As a key member of the Finance and Accounting team of three, the Accounting Manager will report to the Controller and play an important role in the management, execution and continuous improvement of Food Forward’s finance and accounting processes and systems. This will include direct responsibility for full-cycle bookkeeping, reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting practices. This individual will work cross-departmentally providing guidance and support to all staff regarding accounting and finance areas, while exercising sound judgment and discretion and maintaining confidentiality. The candidate must demonstrate a customer service mentality while interacting with staff and enforcing policy. This person must also be highly organized, extremely proactive, and creative with the ability to meet deadlines. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced environment and must be able to prioritize accounting and finance tasks while paying close attention to detail and deadlines. A desire to improve systems and an inquisitive mind are required.

Description

Core Responsibilities:

Each team member has specific roles and responsibilities for overall accounting functions including:

  • Accounts Payable
  • Payroll and Benefits
  • Revenue, Accounts Receivable, and restricted grants funding
  • Fixed Assets
  • Budgeting, reporting and forecasting
  • Audits and annual 990 tax filings
  • Banking, Investments, and Cash Management

General Accounting Functions:

  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable workflows
  • Prepare monthly and ad hoc reports, analyze monthly financial statements, and effectively convey analysis to managers
  • Prepare cash flow analyses as needed
  • Maintain document management system to ensure proper backup and documentation for accounting transactions
  • Support team members as needed

Policies, Procedures, and Compliance:

  • Work with the F&A team to improve and/or establish policies, processes, and internal controls for accounting transactions and budget preparation
  • Ensure operational compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations for any necessary entities

Audits and Risk Management:

  • Assist the Controller in managing and completing the annual audit and 990 process, and updating the process guides
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Work with HR and Operations to manage the organization’s insurance policies
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested related to the finance department needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of financial reporting experience at a mid-sized or larger organization
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, or related software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Government grant experience is a plus
  • High personal standards for accuracy and deadlines, and treats errors as immediate opportunities for structural correction
  • Support both English- and Spanish-speaking staff
