Organizational Overview 

‍Each year in the United States, billions of pounds of food go to waste. At the same time, over 35 million Americans experience food insecurity. The Farmlink Project is a non-profit organization that connects farms with surplus to food banks to feed people in need, reduce carbon emissions & empower the next generation of changemakers in the food system. The Farmlink Project is a virtual organization with ~25 employees. This is a fully remote position; we are accepting applicants in all U.S. time zones, although the position will require a staggered schedule from existing team members in the Central time zone. 


Schedule

This position requires a variable schedule, including availability between 7 AM – 7 PM PST and potential weekend/holiday coverage.


Compensation

The salary range for this role is $73,000-$78,000 with a competitive benefits package. Exact compensation details will be commensurate with experience.


Role Overview 

The Deal Flow Specialist supports Farmlink's mission by coordinating the movement of surplus food from donors to hunger relief organizations. This role is central to the day-to-day operations of the Food Program, handling transportation logistics, managing donor and partner relationships, maintaining accurate records, and supporting strategic projects. The ideal candidate brings a logistics or food recovery background, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a passion for fighting food insecurity.


Food Donation Coordination & Logistics (~70%)

  • Coordinate daily food donation transactions, including scheduling, transportation, and confirmation to facilitate the timely delivery of donations.
  • Liaise with food donors and recipient organizations to confirm details and ensure smooth execution.
  • Maintain accurate records of food donations, including donor information, donation details, and distribution data (e.g., shipping confirmations and receipts) in Fusionware and associated systems.
  • Provide time-sensitive, flexible daily management and exemplary customer service in support of unpredictable daily and weekly food donation volumes.


Partner & Food Donor Relationship Management (~20%)

  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with new food donors to increase overall procurement.
  • Support the identification, evaluation, and selection of packaging, equipment, and transportation partners to meet the organization’s needs and ensure efficient food movement.
  • Maintain and grow strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors.
  • Maintain regular communication with existing partner agencies, demonstrating organizational values-aligned customer service.
  • Update stakeholders’ contact information and relationship management in existing and future systems.


General Food Program Support (~10%)

  • Track key metrics related to logistics and food donor management to inform strategy and improve performance.
  • Support the development and scaling of the food recovery program in collaboration with the Deal Flow Manager and program leadership.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Food Program leadership to align logistics with operational goals.
  • Contribute to best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance logistics and donor management processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in additional Food Program activities during high volume recoveries and special stakeholder events on an as needed basis.


Qualifications & Skills

  • 3–5 years of experience in one or more of the following, or related role:
  • Produce industry, food recovery, or logistics.
  • Freight dispatch and management.
  • Nonprofit program management or donor/partnership development is desirable. 
  • Exceptional organizational and data entry skills.
  • Responsive communication and time management critical to daily operations.
  • Flexible, proactive, and adaptable in a fully remote work environment with digital tools as primary work environment
  • Proficiency in Google Workplace and common professional systems; experience in Fusionware a plus.
  • Ability to manage time-sensitive workflows and multitask effectively
  • Strong communication skills (email, phone, and in person) and experience working with diverse partners
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
