Multimodal transportation planning is moving fast, and we need someone sharp to help us keep pace. Fairpointe Planning is looking for a mid-level Planner to join our team and take real ownership of projects that move people across the Southeast. This is a mid-level role with room to grow. You'll support planning and technical work across a range of projects, and you'll own specific deliverables from day one, working alongside experienced project managers, engineers, and public agency partners, including state DOTs, MPOs, transit agencies, and local governments.

Description

Key Duties

  • Dig into existing conditions data and turn it into clear, useful analysis 
  • Research planning trends and best practices, and help shape recommendations that fit each client's goals 
  • Help produce planning documents, technical reports, presentations, and infographics that people actually read 
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, clients, and community groups, and show up for public meetings and engagement events 
  • Partner with internal and external project teams to keep deliverables sharp and on schedule 
  • Stay current on transportation trends, tools, and policy through ongoing professional development 


Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, transportation, geography, public administration, civil engineering or a related field (master's a plus, not required) 
  • 6+ years of transportation planning experience; consulting, public agency, or MPO background preferred 
  • Working familiarity with federal and state transportation planning processes, including MPO coordination, Title VI, and environmental justice requirements 
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, and the judgment to work independently as well as on a team 
  • The ability to explain technical material to people who don't speak planner 
  • Bonus points for ArcGIS experience and data visualization chops 
  • Experience with multimodal planning approaches is a plus 


Work Environment/Travel

  • Based out of our Nashville, TN; this is not a remote position 
  • Some travel is required for public meetings, field visits, and stakeholder engagement 
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required 
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

Compensation:

The minimum starting pay rate depends on experience and qualifications. Fairpointe offers health insurance benefits and an optional dollar-for-dollar match for 401 (k) contributions, up to 4% of gross salary. Inquire for more information about benefits.
