Expatiate Communications is seeking a duly credentialed Special Education Teacher to provide specialized academic instruction and comprehensive educational services within a Special Day Class (SDC) setting. The ideal candidate will hold a California Education Specialist Credential authorizing service to students with Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe disabilities and have experience developing and implementing individualized instructional programs.

Pay Range: $55.00 - $67.00 per hour/ DOE

What You’ll Do:

• Plan, develop, and provide direct specialized academic instruction (SAI) to students with disabilities in a Special Day Class (SDC) setting.
• Provide individualized, small-group, and whole-group instruction based on students’ IEP goals, present levels of performance, accommodations, modifications, and identified educational needs.
• Develop and implement differentiated and specially designed curriculum aligned with applicable California standards and students’ individual learning needs.
• Provide instruction in academic, functional, behavioral, social-emotional, communication, independent-living, and other skill areas as appropriate to the students served.
• Develop and maintain a structured, safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and learning.
• Implement classroom management strategies, positive behavior supports, behavior intervention plans, and other student-specific behavioral supports as applicable.
• Monitor, collect, document, and analyze student performance and progress toward IEP goals and instructional objectives.
• Develop and maintain accurate student records, instructional documentation, progress reports, and other required special education documentation.
• Develop, review, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with students, families, administrators, related-service providers, general education teachers, and other members of the educational team.
• Participate in and, when appropriate, lead IEP meetings, including annual, triennial, amendment, and other special education meetings.
• Conduct or participate in educational assessments and use assessment data to inform instruction, placement, goals, services, accommodations, and educational programming.
• Collaborate with general education teachers and related-service providers to support student access to the curriculum and successful participation in school activities.
• Provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, supplementary supports, and instructional strategies identified in students’ IEPs.
• Direct, coordinate, and collaborate with paraprofessionals and other classroom support personnel regarding implementation of student instructional and behavioral supports.
• Provide appropriate guidance and direction to paraprofessional staff supporting students within the SDC environment.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student progress, educational programming, and areas of concern.
• Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, related-service providers, behavioral specialists, and other professionals to coordinate student services.
• Support transitions between educational settings, programs, grade levels, and post-secondary environments as appropriate.
• Maintain compliance with applicable special education requirements, school policies, IEP requirements, and organizational procedures.
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, trainings, and other activities related to student instruction and special education services.
• Maintain professional communication and documentation through applicable technology platforms, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Meet established performance expectations and key performance indicators.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

What You Bring:

• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Valid California Education Specialist Credential authorizing instruction in Mild/Moderate Disabilities and Moderate/Severe Disabilities – Required.
• Experience teaching students in a Special Day Class (SDC), self-contained, or substantially separate special education setting – Preferred.
• Resource Specialist Added Authorization (RSA) or equivalent authorization – a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution – Required.
• Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field – Preferred.
• 3+ years of special education teaching experience – Preferred.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs and providing direct SAI services.
• Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities – Preferred.
• Experience with differentiated instruction, accommodations, modifications, behavior supports, and progress monitoring.
• Experience supervising or coordinating the work of paraprofessionals – Preferred.
• BCLAD certification or bilingual authorization – Preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills – a plus.
