Position Summary

The Communications Manager oversees Evermore's digital presence and content strategy and supports the organization's broader communications needs. You will be responsible for amplifying Evermore's mission across digital platforms with an emphasis on social media, creating compelling content, and collaborating with team members and contractors to ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging.


This position requires a creative, detail-oriented professional who excels at both strategic communications and hands-on content creation, and can coordinate closely with a small team. The Manager will balance high-visibility external communications with behind-the-scenes content planning and coordination. 


This is a part-time, 1099 contract position, reporting to leadership.


Key Responsibilities

Communications and Digital Content

  • Develop and execute Evermore's social media strategy across Facebook and Instagram, creating consistent, mission-aligned content that amplifies our work and engages our community
  • Create, curate, and schedule social media content that reflects Evermore's voice, values, and strategic priorities; monitor engagement and adjust strategy based on performance metrics
  • Write compelling content for multiple channels, including social media copy, newsletters, web updates, and internal communications
  • Manage Evermore's newsletter strategy, overseeing content creation, editing, design coordination, scheduling, and subscriber engagement
  • Serve as day-to-day coordinator with communications consultants and contractors, ensuring deliverables align with Evermore's messaging and brand identity
  • Track and report on communications metrics (social media engagement, newsletter open rates, website traffic) to inform strategy refinement
  • Maintain brand consistency across all communications materials and ensure messaging alignment with Evermore's strategic direction
  • Other duties as assigned to support organizational communications


Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of communications, digital marketing, social media, or other relevant experience, preferably with nonprofit organizations or small teams
  • Demonstrated experience managing organizational social media accounts and creating engaging digital content
  • Strong writing skills across multiple formats, including social media copy, newsletters, and web content
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with experience handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and comfort learning new software systems
  • Self-directed and able to manage multiple competing priorities independently

Preferred

  • Experience with platforms such as Canva, Later, or related software
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and CRM/donor management systems
  • Experience or demonstrated knowledge of the grief and bereavement field, including community care, research, or policy
  • Experience working with nonprofit communications teams or in mission-driven organizations
  • Experience coordinating with communications consultants or contractors

Position Details

  • Part-time, 1099 contract position
  • 15–25 hours per week
  • Compensation: $28–$35 per hour, dependent on experience
  • Must reside in Washington, D.C., Virginia, or Maryland
  • Primarily remote with flexibility for in-person meetings and Board events
