We are seeking a dependable, organized, and self-motivated Cook / Kitchen Manager to join our North Arlington campus. This position plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of our students by preparing nutritious meals, maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen, and ensuring compliance with all food service regulations.

Because Evergreen serves a bilingual community, the Cook / Kitchen Manager must be able to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.

Position Summary

The Kitchen Manager / Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals and snacks for children, maintaining kitchen operations, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with all licensing, food safety, and health regulations. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organization, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Service

  • Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks according to the approved menu.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule.
  • Follow portion requirements and age-appropriate serving guidelines.
  • Accommodate documented food allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Maintain accurate meal counts and food service records.
  • Ensure all food is stored, prepared, and served safely.

Kitchen Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and food preparation equipment.
  • Receive, inspect, and properly store food deliveries.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs.
  • Rotate inventory and monitor expiration dates.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and report maintenance needs promptly.

Compliance & Safety

  • Follow all state childcare licensing regulations related to food service.
  • Comply with health department standards and food safety procedures.
  • Complete required food program documentation and records.
  • Ensure safe operation of all kitchen equipment.
  • Participate in required trainings and certifications.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (speaking and understanding both languages).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, vendors, and team members in both English and Spanish.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks.
  • Reliable transportation and excellent attendance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work in a kitchen environment for extended periods.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, school kitchen, childcare center, restaurant, or food service setting.
  • Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines.
  • Experience managing inventory, food orders, and kitchen operations.
