Medical Assistant Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team. This role involves supporting dermatologists in performing skin examinations and procedures in both clinical and surgical settings while providing safe, compassionate, and knowledgeable patient care. The ideal candidate will assist with various dermatological treatments, ensure a clean and professional work environment, and deliver exceptional customer service. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a genuine passion for patient care are essential. Cross-training with the front desk may be required to support clinic operations and enhance patient satisfaction. While prior medical experience is preferred, it is not required.
Responsibilities
- Escort patients to exam rooms, document medical history, and ensure rooms are clean and stocked.
- Assist dermatologists with exams, procedures, and treatments like excisions, Botox, laser therapy, and chemical peels.
- Administer medications, educate patients on skincare, and monitor treatment progress.
- Provide post-op care, including suture removal and wound management.
- Coordinate Mohs referrals, prior authorizations, and communicate biopsy results.
- Maintain sterile environments, clean instruments, and prepare surgical tools.
- Perform urine pregnancy tests, review medical histories, and assist with Telehealth intake.
- Ensure accurate patient records, manage biopsy logs, and upload results to EzDerm EMR.
- Send biopsy specimens to labs based on insurance coverage.
- Assist with patient check-out and document treatment plans.
- Manage Accutane patients’ pregnancy tests and iPledge confirmations.
- Monitor patients during procedures and ensure safety.
- Maintain professionalism and create a welcoming environment.
Requirements
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have previous experience in a medical office setting; dermatology experience preferred.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Possess thorough knowledge of medical terminology, dermatology-specific practices, sterile technique, anatomy, and medications- preferred.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, a reliable work ethic, and a professional attitude.
- Exhibit excellent organizational and time management skills to maintain an efficient and clean work environment.
- Utilize strong interpersonal skills to provide excellent customer service and collaborate effectively with patients and team members.
- Communicate clearly in English, both verbally, in writing while using proper grammar and spelling
- Apply basic to intermediate problem-solving skills and proficiency in computer operation.
- Understand dermatology-related systems and job functions.
- Adhere to state and federal regulations, including HIPAA guidelines.
