Reports To: Manager of Auxiliary Programs and Data Systems
Position Summary
The Aftercare Attendant supports Episcopal School of Nashville's aftercare program by helping create a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment for students in grades 3K through 6 following the school day.
Working under the direction of the Manager of Auxiliary Programs and Data Systems, the Aftercare Attendant supervises students, facilitates activities, assists with homework as appropriate, and helps ensure a smooth and positive dismissal experience for students and families. This position plays an important role in extending ESN's commitment to providing a caring, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate experience beyond the instructional day.
Key Responsibilities
Student Supervision
- Provide active supervision of students throughout the aftercare program.
- Ensure student safety at all times, both indoors and outdoors.
- Support a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment where all students feel welcomed and cared for.
- Reinforce school expectations for behavior while helping students develop positive relationships with peers.
Student Engagement
- Lead and supervise age-appropriate games, crafts, recreational activities, and enrichment experiences.
- Assist students with homework when appropriate.
- Encourage creativity, cooperation, and independent problem-solving.
- Help maintain an engaging balance of structured and unstructured activities.
Program Support
- Assist with project ideas, daily setup, cleanup, and organization of aftercare spaces and materials.
- Work with Manager of Auxiliary Programs and Data Systems for material/supply needs for projects, games, etc
- Support snack distribution and student transitions throughout the afternoon.
- Communicate student needs or concerns promptly to the Manager of Auxiliary Programs and Data Systems.
- Follow all school policies and procedures related to student safety, health, and supervision.
Professional Responsibilities
- Arrive on time and prepared for each shift.
- Work collaboratively with aftercare staff and school employees.
- Communicate professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
- Support the mission, values, and Episcopal identity of Episcopal School of Nashville.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in educational, recreational, childcare, athletic, camp, faith-based, or volunteer settings preferred.
- Ability to supervise and engage groups of children in a positive and caring manner.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
- Ability to multitask and remain calm in an active environment.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful community aligned with the mission of Episcopal School of Nashville.
- Background check for applicants 18+
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain independently (must be certified prior to the start of employment; reimbursement available by ESN upon completion)
Schedule and Compensation
- Monday through Friday
- 2:45 PM–5:45 PM during the school year
- Approximately 15 hours per week
- Compensation ranges from $15–$20 per hour, commensurate with experience.
