Key Responsibilities

·      Participate in all aspects of archaeological projects, fieldwork, and deliverables.  

·      Processing of post-­‐field data, including completing archaeological site forms and  historic structure forms; development of map figures, data tables, and illustrations for technical reports.

·      Assist in field analysis of cultural materials and provide coordination with subcontractors and specialized analyses of cultural materials, as necessary.

·      Assist in the processing, cataloging, analyzing, and curation of archaeological collections according to the specifications of the research design and the guidelines of the curation facility where collections will ultimately be housed.

·      Provide data and desk top reviews for technical reports, research designs, cultural resources management plans, and other technical documents.

·      Maintain good working relationships in the field with state and federal agency staff, tribes, private sector clients, and other industry professionals.

Experience and Qualifications

·      A bachelor’s degree or higher in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field is required.

·      A minimum of three (3) years of experience in cultural resources management fieldwork and report completion.

·      Familiarity with laboratory methods, procedures, and protocols for processing collections of archaeological materials (e.g., artifacts, bulk collections) and project records (e.g., field paperwork, photographs, artifact catalogs) for permanent curation at approved curation facilities.

·      Experience in Texas and surrounding states related to cultural resources, inventory, significance testing, and data recovery.

·      Ability to work unsupervised, functioning as an effective, self-­‐motivated, and highly capable individual.

·      Familiarity with GPS devices and digital data collection.

·      Team-­‐orientated attitude with strong leadership and mentoring skills.

·      Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·      Current valid Driver’s License required.

·      Must be able to travel to project locations and conduct fieldwork in mixed terrain for extended periods of time in varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions

·      Ca. 80% field environment; 20% office environment.

·      Ability to drive personal auto to and from client and/or landowner locations is required (mileage will be compensated). Rental vehicles will be provided for travel when contracts/clients/budgets allow.

·      Ability to travel as directed by supervisor.

Physical Requirements

·      Sitting – Remaining in the sitting position for extended periods of time while writing or driving

·      Standing – Remaining on your feet while monitoring, writing field notes, and other activities for extended periods of time.

·      Walking/Hiking – During field investigations it will be necessary to be able to walk/hike for prolonged periods of time over uneven and often rugged terrain.

·      Lifting – Raising/lowering field and personal equipment, including shovels and screens full of dirt, commonly as much as 40 lbs.

·      Handling – Gripping, manipulating, and otherwise handling shovels, screens, trowels, etc. as part of field investigations. This will also include careful handling of small and often fragile artifacts.

·      Alertness – This will involve visual, auditory, and tactile awareness.

o  Visual – Eclipse staff are expected to be visually aware at all times when in the field, whether driving, surveying, or digging. Awareness of landscapes that have potential for prehistoric and historic occupation, awareness of specific features with such potential, and awareness of artifacts in either soil profiles or the screen is an essential part of this job. This also includes visual acuity for changes in soil colors and content.

o  Auditory – Eclipse staff are expected to listen carefully, both to instructions given by supervisors, and for potential hazards in the field (including but not limited to thunder, snakes, insects, and falling tree limbs).

o  Tactile – Eclipse field staff are expected to utilize tactile awareness in the recovery and care of artifacts during excavation.  

·      Talking – Eclipse staff are expected to communicate effectively in the field and office.
