Primary Responsibilities
Technical Leadership:
- Design, install, and certify enterprise-grade structured cabling systems for data centers, corporate campuses, and critical facilities
- Lead installation of high-performance copper and fiber optic infrastructure including Cat6a, Cat8, and OM3/OM4/OS2 fiber
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of network cabling issues using spectrum analyzers, TDRs, and fiber inspection equipment
- Conduct site surveys and create detailed scope of work documentation
- Develop cable pathway designs and review architectural drawings
- Ensure all installations meet or exceed TIA/EIA standards and customer specifications
Team Development:
- Train and mentor junior and mid-level technicians
- Conduct safety training and toolbox talks
- Perform quality inspections of team installations
- Assist with technical hiring and skills assessments
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of structured cabling experience with increasing responsibility
- California C-7 Low Voltage Systems Contractor License (REQUIRED) OR ability to obtain within 12 months
- Minimum 4 years journey-level experience in low voltage systems (within last 10 years)
- Must be 18+ years old
- Must pass C-7 Trade Exam and California Business and Law Exam
- BICSI Installer 2 Certification (RCDD or BICSI Technician preferred)
- Expert-level knowledge of TIA-568, TIA-569, and TIA-606 standards
- Extensive experience with fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing
- Proficiency with enterprise-grade testing equipment (Fluke DSX-8000, OTDR, fiber inspection scopes)
- Demonstrated project leadership experience managing teams of 2-4 technicians
- Strong client relationship and communication skills
- Valid California driver's license with clean record
- Ability to obtain security clearances for government/defense projects
Understanding California C-7 License
What is the C-7 License? The California C-7 Low Voltage Systems Contractor License is issued by the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) and authorizes contractors to install, service, and maintain low voltage systems throughout California.
Scope of Work (Systems Not Exceeding 91 Volts):
- Data networks (structured cabling, fiber optics, LAN/Ethernet)
- Voice systems (telecommunications, telephone systems)
- Video systems (CCTV, surveillance cameras, video distribution)
- Security systems (access control, burglar alarms, intercoms)
- Audio/visual systems (home theaters, conference room AV, PA systems)
- Home automation and building automation systems
- Fire alarm systems (low voltage components)
- Nurse call and paging systems
When Required:
- Any project where labor and materials total $1,000 or more
- Projects throughout California (statewide authority)
- Both new installations and service/maintenance work
Key Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 4 years as journeyman, foreman, supervisor, or contractor in low voltage systems (within last 10 years)
- Background Check: Live Scan fingerprinting
- Examinations:
- C-7 Trade Exam (technical knowledge of low voltage systems)
- California Business and Law Exam (contractor regulations, business practices)
Company Support for License Candidates:
- Full reimbursement for all application and exam fees
- $3,000 licensing achievement bonus upon obtaining C-7 license
Preferred Qualifications
- California C-7 Low Voltage Systems Contractor License (active and in good standing)
- BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification
- California C-10 Electrical Contractor License (complementary)
- California security alarm/fire alarm certifications (complementary)
Project Experience
Candidates should have experience with:
- Enterprise office buildouts (50,000+ sq ft)
- Data center installations and upgrades
- Multi-floor vertical riser installations
- Mission-critical 24/7 facilities
- Projects valued at $100K+
- California C-7 Scope Projects:
- Fiber optic installation for LAN/WAN networks
- Structured cabling for data centers and server rooms
- CCTV and surveillance system installations
- Access control and security system cabling
- Audio/visual system integration (conference rooms, auditoriums)
- Building automation and BMS cabling
- Wireless infrastructure (DAS, small cell, Wi-Fi)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 75+ lbs regularly
- Comfortable working at heights (ladders, lifts, scaffolding up to 40 feet)
- Capable of working in confined spaces, attics, crawl spaces, and equipment rooms
- Willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency calls
- Reliable transportation for travel to job sites
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as project schedules require
