Primary Responsibilities
Technical Installation & Quality Assurance
- Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fiber optic) in commercial environments
- Install telecommunications infrastructure including telephone systems, paging, intercoms, and data networks
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical specifications
- Ensure all installations comply with Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code, NEC Article 725 (Class 2 and Class 3 circuits), and local parish/municipal codes
- Perform advanced troubleshooting using professional test equipment (cable certifiers, OTDR, multimeters, tone generators)
- Install and configure network equipment, patch panels, cable management systems, and low voltage distribution
Supervision & Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor apprentice electricians, cable installers, and cable technicians
- Verify work quality and code compliance for installations performed by supervised staff
- Provide on-the-job training for apprentices working toward their journeyman license
- Conduct safety briefings and ensure team adherence to OSHA standards
Project Documentation
- Coordinate with general contractors, electrical contractors, and facility managers
- Complete installation documentation including as-built drawings, test reports, and inspection records
- Maintain accurate time tracking and project progress reports
Code Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with Louisiana electrical codes and local amendments
- Maintain current knowledge of NEC updates and Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code
- Implement and enforce jobsite safety protocols
- Conduct hazard assessments and implement corrective measures
- Complete incident reports and participate in safety investigations as needed
Required Qualifications
Licensing & Certification
- Louisiana Journeyman Electrician License (REQUIRED)
- Must have completed minimum 8,000 hours (4 years) of on-the-job electrical training
- Must have completed minimum 1,000 hours of classroom instruction
- Must have passed Louisiana Journeyman Electrician examination (administered at parish/municipal level)
- Valid Louisiana driver's license with clean driving record
- OSHA 10 certification & OSHA 30 preferred
Note on Louisiana Journeyman License: Louisiana journeyman electrician licenses are issued at the parish or municipal level. Candidates must hold or be eligible for a journeyman license in the parish(es) where they will be working. Our company will assist with licensing in multiple parishes or States as needed for regional coverage.
Experience & Technical Skills
- 4-7 years of progressive experience in electrical or low voltage installation work
- Minimum 2 years working specifically with low voltage systems (Class 2/Class 3 circuits under NEC Article 725)
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Structured cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fiber optic installation and termination)
- Audio/visual systems and telecommunications
- Proficiency reading electrical and low voltage blueprints
- Experience with cable testing and certification equipment
Physical & Practical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 75+ lbs regularly
- Comfortable working at heights (ladders, lifts, scaffolding up to 40 feet)
- Capable of working in confined spaces, attics, crawl spaces, and equipment rooms
- Willing to work occasional evenings, weekends, and emergency calls
- Reliable transportation for travel to job sites across Louisiana
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Certifications
- BICSI Installer 2 or BICSI Technician certification
- NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Level I or II)
- Louisiana State Fire Marshal licenses:
- Fire Detection and Alarm License
- CCTV License
- Security/Burglar Alarm License
- Manufacturer certifications (CommScope, Panduit, Belden, Leviton, Corning)
- OSHA 30 certification
- Scissor lift and aerial lift certifications
Additional Experience
- Experience supervising apprentices and documenting their training hours
- Familiarity with Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) requirements
- Background working with healthcare, education, or government facilities
Typical Work Schedule:
- Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (flexible start times available)
- Occasional evening or weekend work for occupied building installations (premium pay)
- Emergency on-call rotation (approximately one week per month)
Project Locations:
- 50% work within 75 miles of home base
- 30% regional travel within Louisiana (typically day trips)
- 20% overnight travel (hotel and per diem provided)
