POSITION OVERVIEW DOCN is seeking a full-time People & Operations Manager to provide support to our growing entrepreneurial team, in partnership with the Executive Director and Chief of Staff. BACKGROUND 

Founded in 2019, the Donors of Color Network (DOCN) is a first of its kind cross-racial community of donors committed to engaging our collective power towards racial equity and justice. 


POSITION OVERVIEW 

DOCN is seeking a full-time People & Operations Manager to provide support to our growing entrepreneurial team, in partnership with the Executive Director and Chief of Staff. This role will be responsible for developing, managing, and executing HR policies/protocols, monitoring the overall health and productivity of the organizational culture, and developing mechanisms to meet DOCN’s and its employee’s needs while supporting operations. The People & Operations Manager position is 85% internal and 15% external.  This position will report to the Chief of Staff. 


Areas of Responsibility:

  • Oversee the administration and operations of people programs and policies, including but not limited to onboarding and orientation process, employee status changes, offboarding, promotions, and administration of compensation changes, benefits, and leave. Ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal laws.
  • Proactively anticipate obstacles and offer and implement solutions to keep up with the growth of the business.
  • Build a compliant onboarding, orientation and training process that simplifies the employee experience while ensuring accurate and consistent payment, reporting and training requirements.
  • Conduct regular auditing and reconciliations of people and benefits related data, and implement solutions to correct and prevent discrepancies in the future.
  • Ensure employees have proper equipment and resources to optimize individual and team productivity.
  • Initiate and implement employee engagement opportunities and team building activities.
  • Assist in the coordination of the performance evaluation processes.
  • Support in the recruitment for open positions, including screening resumes, interviewing candidates, managing employment verification processes, and drafting offer letters.
  • Compiling and maintaining a list of regional/geographic employment norms.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risk and ensuring compliance.  Seeking guidance from compliance and legal as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Chief of Staff to deliver annual enrollment options.  Serve as a resource for all benefits inquiries.
  • Maintain employee records, data and reporting with the highest degree of confidentiality and in accordance with all state and federal laws.
  • In collaboration with the Chief of Staff support staff in handling conflict and facilitating difficult conversations.
  • Proactively engage staff and solicit feedback in an effort to develop and maintain an inclusive and high performing culture.
  • Promote diversity in a human centered way that engages and educates staff.
  • Assist with internship and volunteer programs over time.
  • Attend and support Board meetings (materials, minutes, etc.).
  • In collaboration with the Chief of Staff ensure that operational activities are within budget.
  • Assists with updates to operations and policies manuals.
  • Maintain constant communication with staff to ensure proper operations of the company.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance protocols.
  • Increase the efficiency of existing processes and procedures to enhance the company’s internal capacity.
  • Facilitate and maintain relationships between DOCN and vendors/partners, negotiating contracts, creating vendor standards using our inclusion principles.
  • Other duties as assigned. We’re a growing organization, and responsibilities will evolve with the role and as opportunities emerge. 


Qualifications: 

  • Significant (5+ years) HR experience.
  • Proven HR, business acumen, and administrative experience.
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and planning skills.
  • Familiarity with accounting, data and administrative management practices and procedures.
  • Cultural humility - ability to listen and empathize effectively, build relationships across lines of difference and demonstrated ability to engage at a high level with issues of racial equity and inclusion.
  • Understanding how to operate in a startup environment, which requires strategic thinking, hands on implementation, and seamless partnerships across the organization.
  • Comfort working in a high growth, constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload and meet deadlines with quality products
  • Flexibility and capacity to travel domestically 2 - 8 times a year (when safe to do so)
  • Deep knowledge of People Systems implementation and integration
  • Demonstrated experience in managing high-priority projects with multiple stakeholders at all levels of the business.
  • Previous experience with setting/managing budgets (vendor invoices, travel, etc.).


Preferred 

● Remote people management experience and skills. 

● Experience in philanthropy, research, or advocacy organizations. 

● Coaching and/or facilitation experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 


Location: Fully remote, with the expectation of regular travel (i.e. 2 - 8 times annually). We strive to create a family-friendly work environment and can make accommodations for team members with limited ability to travel. 


Compensation and benefits: Full-time remote (work-from-home) position; starting salary $85,000 - $95,000 commensurate with skills and experience; health benefits; paid sick time; work-from-home stipend; and vacation.
