Position Overview & Purpose

Pay Range
$17.25 per hour plus tips
A Week in the Life of a Barktender
The following is a list of general job responsibilities for the Barktender position. At the Dog Yard Bar, we pride ourselves on a culture of teamwork; therefore, please note that this list is not all-inclusive and may be amended to meet changing business needs and to support your fellow team members.
Daily Operations:
- Live out and be a positive advocate for Dog Yard Bar’s culture
- Provide exceptional customer service, developing strong relationships with members and visitors, serving beverages, and selling retail and pet supplies
- Maintain standard operating processes and procedures
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the Yard throughout the shift as well as additional cleaning during opening and closing procedures
- Ensure the safety of the Dog Yard is maintained by actively diffusing dog behavior that may disrupt the social environment
- Ensure all interactions with guests are positive and professional, while always seeking to go above and beyond to delight them
Keep Our Clients & Dogs Happy and Healthy:
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization to King County and Washington State health standards
- To love and respect every pup as a family member, providing warmth and care to the very best of your ability
- To create a safe and loving environment for dogs of all sorts by enforcing the “rules of the park” and ensuring pups are well-mannered
- Willingness to train in our Downtown Dog Lounge locations to get a better understanding of dog behavior and be able to mitigate issues that might arise in the Yard
Support the Business Goals:
- Positively represent the Dog Yard brand, developing an in-depth knowledge of brand messaging, services, and products offered
- Be responsible for visual merchandising and keeping retail fresh, current, and rotated
- Helping drive sales by upselling during peak times, knowledge of our services and offering those to clients, as well as, looking for ways to better the business
- Assist with retail promotions and supplies and inventory management
Must Haves
The ideal Barktender is an enthusiastic animal lover who must be able to drive revenue and provide a great customer experience.
Experience and Education:
- Customer Service experience - 1 plus years preferred
- Food Worker Card (FWC) - must get it within 30 days of employment
- MAST Certification- must get it within 30 days of employment
- Previous Experience Working Professionally with Dogs - 1 year preferred
- High School Diploma or GED – preferred
- Must be 21 years of age or older, in order to independently serve and sell alcoholic beverages
Required Skills and Abilities:
- A good communicator who thrives on building relationships with team members, guests, and suppliers
- Demonstrate attention to detail, ownership, and follow-through
- Ability to successfully balance professionalism with expediency
- Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal
- Open availability and regular attendance – day, evening, weekend, and holiday availability:
- Dog Yard Bar Hours:
- Sunday - Thursday: 12:00 pm pm to 9:00 pm
- Friday & Saturday: 10:00 am to 10:00 pm
- Computer literacy, ability to achieve proficiency within Gingr and Toast software systems
- Comfortable working within close proximity to dogs of all sizes
- Professional and enthusiastic
