Position: Personal Care Aide (PCA)

Job Type: Part-Time / Full-Time 

Location: Client Homes (Prince George's County, Montgomery County Maryland and Surrounding Areas) 

Reports To: Care Coordinator / Supervisor 

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience

Job Summary:


We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Personal Care Aides (PCAs) to provide non-medical support and assistance to clients in their homes. The PCA will help clients maintain their independence, safety, and overall well-being by assisting with daily living activities, mobility support, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and companionship. 


PCAs at Nurse Sister Friend Personal Care Agency will work under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and are expected to deliver services in a professional, respectful, and client-centered manner. 


Key Responsibilities


Personal Care and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

- Assist clients with bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting while ensuring dignity and respect. 

- Provide mobility support, including assistance with walking, transferring, and positioning. 

- Assist with incontinence care and provide reminders for personal hygiene routines. 


Companionship and Emotional Support

- Engage clients in friendly conversation, emotional support, and social activities to enhance well-being. 

- Encourage light exercise, hobbies, and mental stimulation activities based on the client’s preferences. 

- Provide companionship for clients experiencing loneliness or isolation. 


Household Assistance and Meal Preparation

- Perform light housekeeping such as laundry, tidying up, and keeping living spaces clean. 

- Plan and prepare nutritional, balanced meals according to the client’s dietary needs. 

- Assist with grocery shopping and meal planning as requested by the client or family. 


Medication and Health Monitoring 

- Provide medication reminders but do not administer medications. 

- Observe and report any changes in the client’s physical or emotional condition to the Care Coordinator. 

- Monitor safety concerns such as fall risks, home hazards, and health deterioration. 


Transportation and Appointment Assistance

- Provide transportation assistance using the client’s personal vehicle to appointments, errands, or community activities. 

- Accompany clients to medical visits, therapy sessions, and other important engagements, taking notes when needed. 

- Ensure clients arrive safely to and from destinations and assist with mobility as necessary. 


Client and Family Communication

- Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, families, and agency staff. 

- Document daily care activities, observations, and any incidents in the required reporting system. 

- Follow the client’s personalized care plan and provide feedback on needed adjustments. 


Qualifications and Requirements


Education and Experience

- High school diploma or GED required. 

- Certification as a Personal Care Aide (PCA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred but not required. 

- At least one year of experience providing in-home care, senior care, postpartum support, or personal care services preferred. 

- Experience working with clients with mobility limitations, dementia, chronic illnesses, or post-surgical recovery is a plus. 


Skills and Abilities

- Strong compassion, patience, and empathy for working with aging adults, postpartum mothers, and individuals needing support. 

- Ability to assist with personal care tasks in a respectful and professional manner. 

- Excellent communication and active listening skills. 

- Ability to follow care plans and respond appropriately to changing client needs. 

- Reliable, punctual, and responsible with strong time management skills. 


Requirements

- Must be 18 years or older. 

- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. 

- Must be able to use the client’s personal vehicle for transportation assistance. 

- Must maintain active auto insurance if providing transportation. 

- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening. 

- Must complete CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire if not already certified. 

- Must be comfortable working in a home setting and following safety protocols.
