Description

The Transportation Specialist at Discovery Horse plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of clients to and from our therapeutic farm, community locations, and home environments. This role involves operating commercial company vehicles, managing transportation schedules, and maintaining a high standard of safety and reliability while fostering secure attachments in all relationships.


The specialist maintains accurate and timely records of transportation schedules, mileage, and vehicle maintenance. Communication is a key part of the role, requiring proactive engagement with clients, families, and team members regarding transportation arrangements and any changes to schedules.



GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Responsible for participating and contributing to a trusted and connected administrative team that cares for Discovery Horse LLC. 
  • Daily considers client calendar, weather, seasonal responsibilities, and daily tasks when planning and prioritizing tasks for self. 
  • Ensure the safety of vehicles, equipment, supplies, and materials owned or leased by the company and will maintain these in good condition. 
  • Maintains accurate transportation records. 
  • Completes required training including reviewing policies and procedures on safe transportation. 
  • Willing to work with hours that range from standard business hours to evening and/or weekend hours. 
  • Responsible for providing reliable, safe, and essential transportation services in a rural community that provides access to quality mental health services. 
  • Must communicate effectively with staff and be able to work within the confines of Discovery Horses' busy client schedule. 
  • Promotes consistency and predictability in direct service delivery. 
  • Demonstrates sensitivity, empathy, and professionalism when interacting with clients and their families.  
  • Responsible for anticipating and prioritizing activities to ensure a safe and connected client experience.  
  • Responsible for building trusted and connected relationships with fellow team members, resident animals and clients. 
  • Provides the first and last experience with many client engagements and as such sets the tone for the client to be prepared to receive service with Discovery Horse. 
  • Adhere to all organizational and programmatic policies, procedures, and safety protocols. 
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. 
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment within the facility, on the farm and in commercial vehicles. 
  • Maintains compliance with state and federal laws governing the work of Discovery Horse, including but not limited to HIPPA compliance and state waiver programs. Regularly attends related compliance training as required. 
  • Understands that the schedules of direct care staff are managed by Discovery Horse LLC schedulers. This ensures appropriate time for balancing client care, professional development and self-care. 
  • Completes thorough and timely expense reports. 
  • Actively seeking opportunities for learning and development. 
  • Practices humility and self-awareness, recognizing feedback as an opportunity to learn and grow. 
  • Completes other duties as assigned.


ROLE-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Required to hold a valid driver’s license, appropriate insurance, and maintain a safe driving record. May be required to complete additional training on safe transportation procedures.   
  • Notifies management of basic maintenance needs or issues of commercial vehicles. (Oil change, tire rotations, wiper replacements, fluids, uncommon noises, etc.) 
  • Ensures vehicles have adequate fuel prior to transportation. 
  • Strictly adheres to safety guidelines while transporting clients.  
  • Complete required transportation logs. 
  • Ensures the necessary supplies are in each vehicle prior to departure. 
  • Responsible for verifying daily schedules and keeping any notes about trips. Must keep track of the schedule and monitor changes.  
  • There is regular downtime in this role between transportation. Transportation Specialists should find a private place to wait.


EDUCATION 

  •  High School Diploma or Equivalent Required 


EXPERIENCE

  •  Experience in a transportation or logistics role, preferably in a healthcare or social services setting, is beneficial.  
  • First Aid & CPR Training preferred 


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Safe Driving Background 
  • 25 years of age or older 
  • Pass a background check 
  • Position requires considerable walking, sitting, climbing stairs, lifting, and carrying 50+ pounds.

Salary

$17 - $21 per hour
