Digital Accessibility by WeCo Certified Test Consultant Remote · Contractor Company website

The Certified Test Consultant (CTC) Independent Contractor role supports disability-focused usability testing for websites, software, mobile applications, and other digital platforms. CTCs work with the WeCo team to complete testing activities, share feedback on their experiences, and help identify accessibility barriers. CTCs bring their own everyday ways of using digital tools - whether through assistive technology, accessibility settings, or personal strategies - to evaluate usability and share insights based on how digital products work in real life. WeCo’s usability testing is built on the perspectives of people who navigate digital platforms in different ways every day. This feedback helps organizations better understand how their digital products work for real users.

Description

Team Environment and Flexibility

Certified Test Consultants work in a flexible, project-based environment. Testing opportunities vary based on client needs, project timelines, disability representation needs, technology requirements, and contractor availability.

CTCs are invited to participate in projects that align with their lived experience, assistive technology use, device/platform experience, and availability. Some contractors may participate frequently, while others may participate occasionally depending on project needs.

This role is designed to provide flexibility. Contractors are able to accept or decline project opportunities based on their schedules and availability.

Because work is client-driven and project-based:

  • Hours are not guaranteed.
  • Project frequency may vary.
  • Participation opportunities may change over time based on current client and testing needs.

WeCo values building long-term relationships with Certified Test Consultants and works to create meaningful opportunities for individuals to share their lived experiences and perspectives.

Role Requirements and Candidate Expectations

This role is centered on personal experiences with disability and how those experiences influence interaction with digital technology. Candidates moving through the hiring process should be comfortable discussing technology use, digital barriers, usability experiences, and participating in role-related evaluation activities such as practice tests or demonstrations.

Because personal experience with disability is an essential component of this role, additional eligibility, disclosure, or verification steps related to role requirements may occur at later stages of the hiring or onboarding process.

Key Responsibilities

Certified Test Consultants may participate in the following activities:

  • Completing guided usability testing activities for websites, software, mobile applications, or digital documents.
  • Sharing honest feedback about digital experiences, accessibility barriers, frustrations, or successes encountered during testing.
  • Participating in live usability sessions, recorded sessions, surveys, interviews, or group discussions.
  • Communicating observations in a respectful, professional, and constructive manner.
  • Completing assigned testing activities within communicated timelines.
  • Explaining how disability-related needs, assistive technology, adaptive techniques or personal strategies, impact the way digital platforms are accessed and used.

Adaptive techniques for interacting with digital interfaces (without assistive technology) may include:

  • Using memory aids or written steps to complete multi-step digital tasks
  • Repeating actions or re-reading content to confirm understanding or reduce errors
  • Applying simplified or alternative navigation strategies when standard pathways are complex
  • Pausing or segmenting tasks to allow for processing, planning, or error recovery
  • Adjusting interaction approach (e.g., opening multiple tabs, going back and forth) to manage task flow and complexity

Desired Results

Successful Certified Test Consultants will:

  • Provide authentic feedback based on their personal digital experiences.
  • Help identify usability concerns, accessibility barriers, or confusing digital interactions.
  • Participate in testing activities in a reliable and professional manner.
  • Help clients better understand the real-world impact of digital accessibility and usability decisions.
  • Communicate their experiences clearly and honestly.
  • Represent WeCo’s mission and values through respectful, thoughtful participation.

  • Are comfortable discussing how their lived experience influences the way they access and interact with digital platforms
  • Can independently navigate websites, applications, or mobile devices at a basic level or above.
  • Regularly use assistive technology or adaptive techniques in daily life, when relevant to their digital experiences.
  • Are dependable, respectful, and able to communicate professionally.
  • Can complete assigned activities independently or consistently work with support when needed.
  • Have access to a laptop, desktop computer, or mobile device capable of participating in testing activities.
  • Have access to internet service and a space that allows participation in remote testing sessions.
