The Democratic Party of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and organized Executive Director to lead our team. In partnership with the Chair, the Executive Director is responsible for guiding the strategy, management, and growth of DPVA. The Executive Director will be involved in all aspects of DPVA’s operations including, but not limited to, election activities, voter protection, fundraising, budgeting, political strategy, staff recruitment and retention, outreach, and building party infrastructure.

Description

Duties

  • Managing the day to day operations of the DPVA Political, Finance, Communications, Data, and Operations Departments as well as the annual Coordinated Campaign and any firms and consultants necessary
  • Maintaining close working relationships with various partner organizations including the Virginia House and Senate Democratic Caucuses, DNC, DGA, and others
  • Building and nurturing relationships with party leaders, local and state elected officials
  • Possessing a strong understanding of campaign finance, election, and compliance laws to work in concert with the compliance team and legal counsel in ensuring all DPVA activities are compliant
  • Building and tracking the federal, nonfederal, coordinated and paid media budgets for the state party
  • Supports the creation, building, and growth of county parties throughout the state
  • Understanding, negotiating, and signing contracts ranging from Collective Bargaining Agreements, MOUs, Joint Fundraising Agreements, consultant contracts, and any other contracts necessary
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring staff in both permanent and temporary bargaining unit positions and management roles
  • Managing the finance team to create a robust apparatus for fundraising and cultivating large and small donors
  • Approving all external communications from press releases to direct mail pieces, with an understanding of FEC rules on TV ads to be important for the 2026 cycle
  • Maintaining strong relationships with both Unions representing DPVA Staff
  • Building strong national relationships to ensure Virginia remains a national priority
  • Other responsibilities as required


Qualifications

  • A minimum of at least six (6) years relevant experience. Management experience working on a coordinated campaign, statewide or congressional political campaign, or with a state political party is highly preferred
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Virginia politics is preferred
  • Experience managing a large team, with a demonstrated ability to achieve high levels of performance and outcomes through management and influence
  • A reputation for leading with integrity and making decisions with the input of the appropriate stakeholders
  • Experience building, managing, and tracking multiple large budgets
  • A strong working understanding of managing both bargaining unit and management staff
  • Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills
  • A demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute many projects simultaneously
  • Detail oriented with experience solving problems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with staff and external stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality


Salary: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Position will include medical, dental and vision insurance benefits at no cost to the Executive Director. Generous paid time off policy and paid holidays will be provided. DPVA provides a 401k match after one year of service. Position will be based in Richmond, VA.
