About the Role

DeMarr Engineering is seeking a Civil Project Engineer with 3–5 years of land development experience to join our growing team. This role serves as a key contributor to the design and execution of civil engineering projects, supporting projects from concept through submission while coordinating with clients, agencies, survey crews, and internal team members. 

You will work on a diverse range of land development projects throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, gaining hands-on experience with local jurisdictional processes and real-world site development challenges. 

We are looking for someone who is technically capable, organized, proactive, and eager to grow as an engineer and project professional. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to civil engineering design for land development projects  
  • Manage design production, coordination, and quality control  
  • Prepare and oversee:  
  • Site layout and grading plans  
  • Utility design  
  • Stormwater management systems  
  • Erosion and sediment control plans  
  • Perform engineering calculations and ensure technical accuracy  
  • Prepare and respond to jurisdictional review comments  
  • Communicate directly with clients, reviewers, and regulatory agencies  
  • Ensure designs meet applicable regulatory requirements and remain resourceful when identifying practical and cost-effective solutions to project challenges 
  • Coordinate internally with survey crews and junior staff  
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment  
  • Support project execution from initial concept through permitting and submission  


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering  
  • EIT required; PE preferred or actively pursuing licensure  
  • 3–5 years of experience in civil site/land development design  
  • High proficiency in:  
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D  
  • Microsoft Office Suite  
  • Strong knowledge of:  
  • Grading, utilities, stormwater management, and erosion & sediment control design  
  • Local jurisdictional processes  
  • Northern Virginia and/or Washington, DC permitting preferred  
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines  
  • Ability to work collaboratively while taking ownership of assigned work  
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical quality
