Position Summary
The Water Spider is an entry-level material handling role responsible for ensuring production lines are continuously supplied with the right materials, tools, and components to maintain flow and minimize downtime. This role supports the Material Handler Associate and production teams by staging materials, moving inventory, and coordinating closely with line leads. The Water Spider plays a critical role in maintaining production efficiency, organization, and safety across the factory floor
Core Responsibilities
- Stage and deliver materials, components, and tools to production lines (wall and roof lines)
- Maintain continuous material flow to prevent production stoppages
- Transport materials between receiving, storage, and production areas
- Assist with unloading, organizing, and stocking incoming materials
- Support inventory accuracy by properly labeling, organizing, and tracking materials
- Remove scrap, waste, and unused materials from production areas
- Ensure workstations remain clean, organized, and production-ready
- Coordinate closely with Material Handler and production leads on daily priorities
- Identify and escalate material shortages or discrepancies
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 0–2 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or construction environments.
- Ability to safely operate basic material handling equipment (training provided as needed).
- Ability to read basic documentation such as packing slips, labels, and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a production team and communicate clearly with supervisors and support functions.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and disciplined execution in a factory environment.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Based onsite at Datum’s Greenwood, SC manufacturing facility.
- Regular presence on the production floor and in warehouse/staging areas.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull materials up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
- Required use of PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
- Exposure to noise, moving equipment, and seasonal temperature variations typical of a manufacturing environment.
