Job Title: Material Handler

Reports To: Production Manager
Dotted Line Coordination: Purchasing Specialist; Quality Specialist
Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate movement of raw materials, components, and finished goods throughout Datum’s manufacturing facility in support of daily production operations. This role executes material movements in accordance with production schedules, work instructions, and direction from the Production Manager. The Material Handler plays a critical role in maintaining production flow, workplace safety, and material organization on the factory floor.
Core Responsibilities
- Receive, move, stage, and deliver raw materials, components, and finished goods as directed by the Production Manager.
- Verify received materials against packing slips and documentation and promptly escalate discrepancies to the Purchasing Specialist.
- Stage materials at designated production areas according to work instructions and production priorities.
- Safely operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and carts in accordance with training and site safety rules.
- Identify, segregate, and move non-conforming or quarantined materials only as directed by the Quality Specialist.
- Maintain organized, clearly labeled, and clean material storage and staging areas to support efficient production flow.
- Assist with inventory counts, material audits, and location verification activities when directed.
- Follow all safety, quality, and operational procedures, including proper use of PPE and immediate reporting of hazards, damage, or safety concerns.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment preferred.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts or other powered industrial trucks, or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
- Ability to read basic documentation such as packing slips, labels, and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a production team and communicate clearly with supervisors and support functions.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and disciplined execution in a factory environment.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Based onsite at Datum’s Greenwood, SC manufacturing facility.
- Regular presence on the production floor and in warehouse/staging areas.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull materials up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
- Required use of PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
- Exposure to noise, moving equipment, and seasonal temperature variations typical of a manufacturing environment.
