Research Specialist to assist with biomaterials fabrication and general lab duties.
Description
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s (much preferred) degree in a scientific field related to biomedical engineering, biology, or bio-manufacturing.
Skills in synthesis of biomaterials and their analysis is critical.
Demonstrated ability to manage and operate in a laboratory setting, as well as ability to work independently and with minimal supervision is a must.
Experience and skills (or willingness to learn) in 3D printing, bioprinting, and microfabrication, specifically familiarity with extrusion and stereolithography 3D printing, post-print sample cleanup and processing, and laser engraving/etching.
Additional Job Details:
Conduct routine activities related to maintaining and operation of a biomaterials manufacturing lab (shipping and receiving orders, inventory monitoring, processes scheduling, communications with the team, new members supervision, day-to-day safety and maintenance tasks, etc.).
Responsible for synthesis of biomaterials, specifically the synthesis of gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) and hyaluronic acid-methacrylate (HA-MA, alginate-methacrylate (Alg-MA).
Perform basic quality control (QC) assays for biomaterials validation, such as sample preparation, cross-linking timing, and controlled degradation.
Maintain records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
Compile data and records results of manufacturing runs and QC assays, and customer reported studies/results to help track manufacturing consistency and assist with new and existing customer presentations.
Assist with 3D CAD modeling software to prepare the digital models for fabrication, based on customer needs (training is provided, if needed).
Assist with fabrication and processing of 3D prints and bioprints using a variety of 3D printing and microfabrication platforms for specific customer needs (training is provided, if needed).
