Database Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer to support the modernization of a mission-critical government information system. In this role, you'll manage and optimize Oracle databases, improve system performance, and ensure data security, integrity, and availability across both on-premises and AWS environments.

You'll work closely with software developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to support application performance, reporting, and system modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Oracle 19c databases in on-premises and AWS RDS environments.
  • Design and implement database schemas for enterprise applications.
  • Monitor, tune, and optimize database performance.
  • Perform database patching and version upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Implement database security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Support Java applications, SAP Business Intelligence reporting, and Apache Solr integrations.
  • Troubleshoot production database issues and resolve performance problems.
  • Monitor database health and maintain technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system modernization.

Required Qualifications

  • 13+ years of professional database administration or related IT experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree may substitute for 4 years of experience.
  • A Master's degree may substitute for 6 years of experience.
  • Experience administering Oracle 19c databases in production environments.
  • Experience managing Oracle databases in both on-premises and AWS RDS environments.
  • Experience with database schema design, performance tuning, and optimization.
  • Experience implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Experience with Oracle database patching and upgrades.
  • Experience supporting Java application integrations.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex production database issues.
  • Experience implementing security and compliance requirements for government systems (such as FISMA or FedRAMP).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience integrating Oracle databases with Apache Solr.
  • Experience supporting SAP Business Intelligence reporting.
  • Experience with enterprise database monitoring tools.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.


Salary

$145,000 - $195,000 per year
