About the role

As a Controller in the Quality Assurance and Review team at Crew Finance, you will report to the Director of Quality Assurance, assist in the cleanup of financial operations and reporting for our venture backed or bootstrapped startup clients. You will have the opportunity to utilize your expertise handling different accounting software and systems. These include but are not limited to QuickBooks, Xero, and NetSuite.


One of the unique aspects of the role at Crew Finance is working fractionally, meaning you will have the opportunity to work with multiple clients in a variety of industries.  This dynamic environment allows for exposure to best practices, and business models, providing you with valuable experience, insights, and relationships.


Your main objective will be to meet client needs by reviewing current financial records and accounting processes, organizing and reordering the financials.   The ideal candidate is an accounting professional who excels at untangling complex or neglected accounting systems, implementing best practices, and establishing efficient accounting processes for long term scalability and compliance.  


What you will own & improve:


  • Review and assess the current state of clients’ books, identify gaps, inconsistencies, and inaccuracies. 
  • Reconcile historical transactions, correct misclassifications, and resolve unreconciled balances. 
  • Ensure proper accruals, adjustments, and cutoff procedures are applied
  • Address prior errors in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulations
  • Standardize and streamline bookkeeping, closing, and reporting processes.
  • Develop and document accounting procedures, policies and internal controls. 
  • Communicate findings and progress clearly and proactively with clients and monthly controllers. 
  • Employ best practices, systems and tools based on industry experience and Crew best practices

What you already know:


  • Demonstrable experience leading or participating significantly in restating historical financials and correcting multi-period financials for an early stage company
  • Experience with most of the following online or similar platforms:
  • QuickBooks Online
  • NetSuite
  • Bill.com
  • Gusto
  • Shopify
  • Experience working with and for start-up businesses
  • Experience with trade spend and promotion management
  • Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry experience preferred
  • Knowledge of USGAAP standard for revenue recognition, COGS, inventory and costing
  • Ability to manage several client engagements simultaneously, with a focus on service
  • Time management skills, working with clients 
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced project management and problem solving skills with a roll-up-your-sleeves, get-it-done attitude

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field; CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive professional accounting experience in a client services organization
  • Strong expertise in accounting systems and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to clean and reconstruct messy or incomplete financial records
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to non-financial stakeholders. 


Salary

$130,000 - $140,000 per year
