Description

Flooring Installer Apprentice

Craftsman Hardwood Flooring | San Angelo, TX

Full-Time | Entry Level | Career Path Position

Who We Are

Craftsman Hardwood Flooring is a high-end wood flooring company specializing in hardwood installation, sanding and finishing, custom and patterned flooring, stair systems, and restoration. But we are more than a flooring company.

We believe our work is about craftsmanship, integrity, service, legacy, and people. Standing on the shoulders of the generations before us, we believe in passing on the knowledge and tools of the trade — building up skilled craftsmen who grow in both skill and character. We work not only to enrich ourselves, but to give back to our community, because a rising tide lifts all boats.

That is the Craftsman Difference: excellent work, developed people, and a culture where customers, employees, and the larger community are all strengthened through what we build.

Our Core Values

1. Craftsmanship with Integrity — We do excellent work the right way, even when no one is watching. Pride in the details, honest communication, and work we are proud to put our name on.

2. Building People & Legacy — We invest in people, pass on the tools of the trade, and use our success to bless others. Every person on this team has the opportunity to grow in skill, character, and contribution.

This Is Not a Dead-End Job. This Is Where a Career Begins.

We are not hiring bodies to fill a truck. We are looking for the next generation of craftsmen — and we are willing to invest in developing them from the ground up.

Flooring experience is not required for this role. What we cannot teach is character, work ethic, and the drive to do things right. If you have those, we will teach you everything else.

The best indicator we have found? Find someone who builds things when nobody is paying them.

The Role

The Flooring Installer Apprentice is a full-time, entry-level position. You will work directly alongside experienced craftsmen on residential and commercial job sites, learning every phase of a hardwood flooring project from site preparation through final installation and finishing. This role is structured, hands-on, and built for someone who is serious about learning a trade.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist lead installers with all phases of flooring projects, including site prep, subfloor work, installation, finishing, and cleanup
  • Observe and learn proper use of hand tools and power tools under direct supervision
  • Help remove existing flooring, clean and prep subfloor surfaces, and stage materials for installation
  • Assist with cutting and laying flooring materials under the guidance of a lead craftsman
  • Keep the job site clean, safe, and organized throughout each project
  • Load and unload equipment and materials as needed
  • Follow company systems, checklists, and SOPs consistently
  • Retain and apply training — this is one of the strongest predictors of success in this role
  • Ask questions, take notes, and show up ready to learn every day

What You Bring

Non-Negotiables

  • Genuine enjoyment of physical, hands-on work — this is not optional
  • Personal responsibility: you show up, keep commitments, and own your mistakes
  • Coachable: you accept feedback, adjust your approach, and improve without getting defensive
  • Attention to detail — you notice things others miss and care about getting it right
  • Ability to retain training and apply it consistently, not just once
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites in and around San Angelo

Preferred (not required)

  • Any hands-on experience — construction, remodeling, woodworking, auto repair, farming, ranching, welding, or any trade requiring tools and problem solving
  • Basic familiarity with hand and power tools
  • Comfort with basic technology: smartphone, digital checklists, company apps

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry materials up to 75–100 lbs
  • Kneel, bend, crouch, and stand for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Work primarily indoors; some outdoor work and loading/unloading required
  • Must be able to work in Texas conditions when required

Compensation & Career Path

Pay: Starting hourly rate range, $18- $20/hr,  based on experience and aptitude — to be discussed during the application process

Career Development Path:

  • Apprentice → Learning the trade fundamentals under direct supervision
  • Advanced Apprentice → Increased independence, skill depth, and expanded responsibilities
  • Journeyman Craftsman → Running projects, mentoring others, and earning performance pay
  • Master Craftsman → Senior leadership, highest skill level, and maximum earning potential

Advancement is based on demonstrated competency, quality, productivity, and contribution — not time served. There is no predetermined timeline and no cap on where you can go. The speed of your growth is largely up to you.

After completing the apprenticeship training period, team members become eligible for the company's performance pay system, which rewards efficiency, quality, and growth.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday; occasional Saturday during peak season Classification: W-2 Employee
