Position Overview

We seek a skilled Data Center Server Hardware Support Technician to join our dedicated support team. This position involves hardware, firmware, monitoring, and installation responsibilities in a live data center setting. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with hardware diagnostics, system installation, firmware management, and equipment decommissioning.


Key Responsibilities

System Preparation & Installation:

• Install components across servers, storage, desktops, and laptops.

• Perform ILO/IDRAC configuration and cable management.

• Complete firmware setup and pre-installation tasks.

• Connect and label network cabling; coordinate port activation with Security.

• Label systems with machine names and prepare systems for deployment.

• Image Windows and Linux systems using automated tools and ISOs.

• Update asset records in the CMDB.

System and Equipment Removal:

• Disassemble and recover parts from decommissioned systems.

• Follow documented decommissioning procedures.

• Update internal decommissioning reports and tracking tools.

Storage & Firmware:

• Assist with troubleshooting and repairs for storage hardware.

• Follow organizational firmware update policies and apply updates as directed.

• Monitor and respond to customer advisories.

Inventory Management

• Maintain records of spare parts and system pools.

• Track deployed hardware and ensure accurate inventory documentation.

Data Center Walkthroughs

• Conduct routine inspections of active and future data center rooms.

• Identify and report hardware errors or issues during walkthroughs.

Monitoring and Alert Response

• Monitor critical systems for performance issues or failure alerts.

• Manage host configurations in monitoring platforms.

• Respond to alerts via email, pager duty, and other channels.

Break/Fix & Incident Response

• Perform diagnostics and hardware repairs for local and remote systems.

• Coordinate repair activities with remote sites, vendors, and technicians.

• Escort on-site vendors and manage repair ticket workflows.

• Participate in planning sessions and incident resolution processes.

• Create, update, and close tickets for incidents and service requests.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Associate degree in IT, Computer Science, or related technical field preferred.

• 2+ years of experience in data center or hardware support environments.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of server hardware, ILO/IDRAC, and firmware processes.

• Experience with imaging systems and working with Windows/Linux environments.

• Familiarity with asset tracking tools and monitoring platforms.

Certifications

• CompTIA A+ or Server+ preferred.

• ITIL Foundation or similar process-related certification is a plus.

Soft Skills

• Detail-oriented with strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

• Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently.

• Excellent communication and documentation abilities.

Work Environment

This position requires working onsite at a secure client facility in Bristol, CT. Work may include data center access and occasional lifting or movement of equipment. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with occasional after-hours support as needed.
