Lead Medical Assistant
(Lead MA)
CornerstoneMD • Pasadena & River Oaks locations • Full-Time
Our medical assistant team supports three physician practices across two clinic locations, and we're looking for an experienced clinical leader to manage it. The Lead MA owns the MA team's day-to-day performance, staffing, and training — reporting to practice leadership and acting as the bridge between our physicians and clinical staff.
CornerstoneMD is a multi-physician outpatient practice with locations in Pasadena and River Oaks. Our medical assistants support clinician teams on a weekly basis, so every clinician has consistent, high-quality clinical support. We're a fast-moving, patient-first practice, and we're building out our clinical leadership bench as we grow.
The Lead MA is a working supervisor: you'll manage the MA team's performance, staffing, and training across Pasadena and River Oaks, while staying hands-on with patient care when the schedule calls for it. You'll set the standard for how the team operates day to day — coaching MAs, resolving coverage gaps, and being the first line of accountability when something isn't working. Twelve months in, you'll have built a team that runs smoothly with less day-to-day intervention from physicians and practice leadership, with clear training, coverage, and performance processes in place.
• Directly supervise the MA team across both locations — coaching, giving feedback, handling performance conversations, and building a positive, supportive team culture
• Develop and refine workflows and procedures to optimize clinical operations and MA performance
• Own the weekly rotation and coverage plan across the provider teams resolving gaps and staffing assignments
• Lead hiring, onboarding, and training for new MAs and contractors, keeping clinical protocols and company policies consistent across locations
• Manage time tracking, scheduling, and overtime compliance for the MA team, partnering with practice leadership on staffing decisions
• Serve as the primary point of escalation for clinical workflow and staffing issues, and the main liaison between MAs and physicians
• Provide hands-on patient care support — rooming, vitals, procedures, and documentation in Athena — to fill gaps or support busy days
Required:
• At least 2 years of leadership or managerial experience — supervising, scheduling, or managing a clinical or administrative team
• Active Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) in good standing in Texas
• 5+ years of experience as an MA in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting
• Experience with EHR documentation; Athena experience strongly preferred
• Comfortable adapting to different providers' workflows and preferences week to week
• Reliable transportation for travel between the Pasadena and River Oaks locations
Preferred:
• Prior experience as a lead, charge, or supervising MA in a multi-location or multi-provider practice
• Experience handling performance management, coaching, or disciplinary documentation
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Starting at $52,000/year. Salary based on experience, with bonus opportunities. Full-time employees are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) benefits.
This is a full-time role. Because our MA team rotates weekly across three provider teams, exact days and hours vary by week.
