Description

Copper Roots is seeking a skilled, highly motivated Underground Transmission Line Engineering Supervisor to join our team. The preferred candidate will be based in Texas, Colorado, Idaho, or Wyoming and will play a key role in establishing a new underground transmission line engineering department. The preferred candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in underground transmission line design for voltages ranging from 69kV to 230kV. A Professional Engineering license is required, along with a strong understanding of underground transmission line engineering fundamentals, industry standards, and construction practices. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Supervision and Leadership 
  • Supervise a team of engineers, designers, and technicians responsible for the design and analysis of underground transmission lines. 
  • Develop and implement performance evaluations for direct reports. 
  • Monitor department financials, including revenue, expenses, and staff utilization. 
  • Develop annual department business plans outlining strategic goals, budget forecasts, and resource allocations. 
  • Formulate and execute strategies for continuous improvement within the department. 
  • Manage personnel resource allocations to ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets. 
  • Lead department recruitment efforts, including participation in career fairs and candidate interviews. 
  • Promote department and organizational culture. 
  • Project Oversight 
  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and support for the design and analysis of underground transmission lines. 
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, and resources. 
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices. 
  • Implement innovative solutions to improve project efficiency and quality. 
  • Quality Assurance 
  • Conduct technical project reviews to ensure compliance with client, industry, and internal standards. 
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures. 
  • Address and resolve any technical issues or discrepancies. 


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • PE license. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in underground transmission line design. 
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, CYMCAP and Pull Planner. 
  • Understanding of underground line routing, cable system design, structure design, and underground design. 
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (AEIC, ICEA, IEEE, etc.). 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with MS Office software. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in an engineering supervisory position at a consulting firm.
