Description

Shop Handyman / Facilities Support

Connecticut Motor Cars & Coaches | Plainville, CT

Full-Time

At Connecticut Motor Cars & Coaches, we run a busy RV, fleet, and collision repair facility and a shop this size does not stay clean, organized, safe, and functional by accident.

That is where this role comes in.

Every day, our team solves problems that many shops won’t touch. Complex RV repairs. Collision work. Paint. Electrical diagnostics. Structural repairs. Slide system upgrades. The kind of work that requires people who care about getting it right.

We're a family business with high standards, big goals, and a team that takes pride in what they do.

We are looking for a hands-on Shop Handyman / Facilities Support person who takes pride in keeping a busy operation moving. This is a role for someone who sees what needs to be done and does it. Someone who notices the mess, the broken latch, the cluttered corner, the full trash barrel, the tool that never got put back, the bay that needs to be cleared, the yard that needs attention, or the project that has been sitting unfinished and takes ownership of helping fix it.

This person plays a huge role in the cleanliness, organization, safety, and overall flow of the shop.

This is not a “stand around and wait to be told what to do” position. It is a hands-on, high-impact support role inside a growing family-owned business where the details matter.

What This Role Is Really About

A clean, organized shop changes everything.

It helps technicians work faster.

It helps managers stay focused.

It helps customers feel confident when they walk through the door.

It helps the team take more pride in the place they work.

We are looking for someone who understands that keeping the shop clean and organized is not “extra.” It is part of how a professional operation runs.

You will be one of the people helping make sure the building, yard, work areas, storage spaces, tools, supplies, and common areas are ready for the day every day.

What You’ll Do

This role will include a wide range of hands-on work, including:

  • Keeping the shop, bays, yard, storage areas, and common spaces clean and organized
  • Sweeping, cleaning, clearing clutter, removing trash, and resetting work areas
  • Helping make sure tools, supplies, materials, and equipment are put where they belong
  • Organizing parts, materials, storage areas, shelves, and shop supplies
  • Helping keep the property looking professional for customers, vendors, and the team
  • Handling general building maintenance and small repairs
  • Assisting with facility projects and shop improvements
  • Moving vehicles, equipment, materials, and supplies as needed
  • Helping with deliveries, loading, unloading, and organizing items as they come in
  • Basic carpentry, assembly, mounting, painting, patching, and repair tasks
  • Outdoor cleanup, yard organization, and seasonal property tasks
  • Supporting technicians, managers, and other team members when an extra set of hands is needed
  • Noticing issues before they become bigger problems and bringing them to the right person’s attention

Some days will be planned. Some days will change fast.

That is the nature of a real working shop and we need someone who can roll with it.

Who We’re Looking For

The right person for this role is reliable, observant, practical, and willing to jump in wherever needed.

You do not need to be a master technician. But you do need to be useful.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Takes pride in clean, organized spaces
  • Likes being hands-on and active throughout the day
  • Has a “whatever needs to get done” mindset
  • Can see work that needs to be done without being told every single step
  • Is comfortable using basic hand tools and power tools
  • Has general handyman, maintenance, shop, construction, or mechanical experience
  • Can work independently and stay productive
  • Is dependable, steady, and shows up ready to work
  • Has good judgment and knows when to ask for help
  • Respects vehicles, tools, equipment, property, and the people around them
  • Understands that the little things matter in a professional shop

This is a great fit for someone who likes variety, does not want to sit behind a desk, and feels good at the end of the day knowing they made the whole place run better.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, climb, move around, and be on your feet throughout the day
  • Comfort working indoors and outdoors
  • Basic tool knowledge
  • Strong work ethic
  • Reliability and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in and around a busy repair facility safely

Experience with any of the following is a plus: automotive shops, RVs, fleet maintenance, building maintenance, construction, landscaping, equipment operation, trailers, forklifts, or general mechanical work.

Why This Role Matters

In a shop like ours, the details add up fast.

A cluttered bay slows down a technician.

A messy storage area wastes time.

A disorganized yard creates problems.

A dirty shop lowers the standard.

A small repair that gets ignored becomes a bigger issue.

This role helps prevent that.

You will help set the tone for the building. You will help keep the team moving. You will help create the kind of shop where people can do high-quality work and feel proud of the environment around them.

What We Offer

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Retirement plan with company match
  • Ongoing training and development

One Last Thing

We’re not looking for someone who wants a job.

We’re looking for someone who wants ownership.

Someone who takes pride in being the person others can rely on.

Someone who enjoys solving problems, improving systems, and helping a team succeed.

Someone who wants to leave things better than they found them.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
