Program Overview


Camp Piney Branch is a community-based summer enrichment program for youth in the Long Branch

community in Montgomery County. The camp will offer hands-on learning experiences for rising 2nd through rising 6th-grade students and opportunities for small group outdoor exploration and recreation activities. The camp provides breakfast and lunch for campers and will be held from August 5th-16th, 2024, at Clifton Park Baptist Church.


Organization Summary:

CHEER is a community-based nonprofit serving the Long Branch/ Takoma Park community. Its mission is to provide people with the knowledge and ability to create healthy, thriving communities, especially in the neighborhoods that bear the greatest burden of socioeconomic inequity. We act as facilitators and catalysts in generating community-driven activities to fulfill community-defined health, housing, community development, and youth development goals.


Position Summary:

The Lead Teacher will work closely with the Camp Director, teachers, and age group counselors to provide leadership, program development, and execution for a specified age group of campers. They will be responsible for the planning and implementation of both indoor and outdoor activities that foster the physical, social, and emotional growth of the campers for which they are responsible.


Additional support responsibilities will include:

● Planned and executed high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants. These opportunities will include but are not limited to:

○ Organized indoor and outdoor activities and games

○ Arts and crafts activities

○ Social-emotional program curriculum

● Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.

● Supervision and mentorship of age-specific Camp Counselor

● Supervision of campers during weekly field trips/special events


The Lead Teacher should have the following character traits:

● Friendly, outgoing, and energetic; Enjoys working with children/youth

● Innovative and enthusiastic about helping lay the foundation for a unique summer program

● Confident in inspiring youth to make a difference in their community

● Flexible, takes initiative, and proactive

● Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a variety of ages (parents, staff,

and campers)

● Excellent problem solving

Qualifications

● Experience working with children from diverse cultures preferred (bi-lingual is a plus)

● 2+ years of experience planning and implementing a variety of activities for youth

● Experience in program development for youth

● Must be available to complete the full two-week camp (August 5th-16th 8:30 am-2:30 pm,

attend staff orientation (Monday, July 22nd), and prepare weekly plans in advance.


Compensation

A stipend of $1,680 will be provided at the end of the 2-week session.
