Commonplace Coffee exists to foster and build community through coffee with Craft and Care.

Bakers at Commonplace Coffee have the essential function of producing delicious, hearty, and creative food options for our retail shop guests and wholesale clients, using high-quality, regionally sourced ingredients. As a production kitchen and bakery, bakers will review orders and bake to meet requested volumes.

This position can be full-time or part-time with the potential to expand to full-time. This position is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Personal transportation is required to get to and from the work location. Cooking and baking experience in a commercial kitchen is highly preferred.

Essential Functions

• Maintain high quality and consistent product standards.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Prep ingredients needed for bakery items.
• Follow recipes to prepare baked goods and ingredients needed for orders. This involves adjusting ingredient amounts to meet order volumes.
• Monitor oven temperatures to ensure consistent product. 
• Organize and label items to prepare for assembly and delivery shifts.
• Test and taste products regularly to maintain familiarity with products and quality standards. Tools include toothpicks, thermometers, and senses.
• Support a positive work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by kitchen manager and supervisors.
• Communicate with team members and management to solve problems.

Qualifications

• Strong attention to detail and respect for cleanliness and sanitation.
• High integrity and personal responsibility.
• Openness to constructive criticism and constantly striving to improve.
• Ability to multi-task with ease and problem solve under challenging conditions.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Experience in commercial kitchens and bakeries highly preferred.

Physical Demands

• Stand and walk – must be able to stand for 4-8 hour shifts and move about the kitchen.
• Perform repetitive tasks – must be able to complete repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and forearms.
• Taste and smell – must be able to detect and perceive smells.
• Oral communication – must be able to clearly and effectively communicate with customers and team members.
• Carry weight, lift – must be able to lift up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

• In-person: Work is performed at the Commonplace Coffee bakery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
• The work environment can be noisy, hot, or cold.
• This job involves working both independently at times and closely with other individuals in an environment with limited space.

Additional Details

• Hourly, part-time and full-time, available. 
• Daytime shifts.
• This position reports to the Kitchen Manager.
