At Common Roots, we are building a thriving local food system and healthy community through organic farming and nutrition education for all ages, where every person has equitable access to nourishing food they enjoy.


Common Roots is seeking a full-time seasonal farm worker beginning in July to join our farm and farmstand teams. This is a hands-on, dynamic position offering experience across nearly every aspect of operating a diversified 14-acre organic vegetable farm.


Our farm grows more than 40 varieties of vegetables that support multiple parts of our mission. Produce is sold through our Farmstand, incorporated into meals prepared in our licensed kitchen, served to local restaurants, and donated to area food shelves as part of our food equity work. Team members help cultivate not only healthy food, but also a stronger and more connected local food system.


The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, collaborative, and enthusiastic about sustainable agriculture and community-centered food systems. We are looking for someone who contributes positively to a fun, respectful, and mission-driven work environment while being prepared for the physical demands and fast pace of farm work throughout the growing season.


Principle Farm Activities Including but not Limited to:

  • Seeding, transplanting, crop management, fertility management, harvest, wash, pack, and some farmstand re-stock.
  • Perform proper record keeping of harvested produce inventory and well documented farm operations.
  • Assist with Intern management and education.
  • Manage the farm on some weekends - primarily harvesting, irrigating, watering, and crop management.
  • Communicate with farm/farmstand team
  • Package wholesale and food shelf orders



Required

  • Ability to work with diverse range of team members, interns, and land educators
  • Self-motivated; demonstrated ability to work independently 
  • Highly organized, observant, and detail-oriented 
  • Time-management skills
  • Excellent communication skills



Desirable

  • Knowledge of/experience in agricultural sciences, plant life cycles, food systems, organic farming
  • Driver’s license, regular access to a car


Physical activity requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions
  • Fast paced with the ability to maintain speed while working long hours
  • Ability to stand and walk up to > 75% of work day
