About the Role:

The Personal Support Specialist (PSS) plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals requiring assistance with daily living activities, particularly those with physical or cognitive challenges. This position focuses on providing compassionate, respectful, and personalized care to support clients' independence and dignity. The PSS is responsible for managing sensitive health needs such as incontinence and assisting with personal hygiene tasks like bathing, ensuring comfort and safety at all times. By fostering a trusting relationship, the PSS helps clients maintain their routines and promotes their overall well-being. This role requires a dedicated professional who can adapt to the unique needs of each client while adhering to healthcare standards and protocols within the social assistance environment in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or training in personal support work or a related healthcare field.
  • Demonstrated experience or training in incontinence management and bathing assistance.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet state-specific healthcare requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working as a Personal Support Specialist or in a similar caregiving role.
  • Personal Support Certificate. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients with incontinence management, including timely and hygienic care to prevent discomfort and health complications.
  • Provide support with bathing and personal hygiene, ensuring client safety, privacy, and comfort throughout the process.
  • Monitor and report any changes in clients’ physical or emotional condition to healthcare supervisors or family members.
  • Help clients with mobility and positioning to prevent pressure sores and promote circulation.
  • Maintain accurate records of care provided and follow individualized care plans tailored to each client’s needs.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams to coordinate care and address concerns.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and confidentiality regulations and guidelines.

Skills:

The required skills of incontinence management and bathing are essential for providing direct, hands-on care that ensures client comfort and health. These skills are applied daily to assist clients with sensitive personal care tasks while maintaining their dignity and privacy. Effective communication skills are used to understand client needs and to coordinate with healthcare professionals and family members.

Preferred skills such as CPR certification and familiarity with electronic health records enhance the ability to respond to emergencies and document care accurately. Additionally, cultural competence and bilingual abilities support delivering personalized care to a diverse client base, improving overall service quality.

Salary

$18 - $23 per hour
