Cold Symmetry, Inc. UI/UX Designer – Systems & Implementation Remote · Contractor

Cold Symmetry is growing. We're currently hiring for multiple roles on Mortal Shell II.

Description

About the Role:

We’re looking for a UI/UX Designer with a solid grasp of Unreal Engine to support implementation, iteration, and bugfixing for Mortal Shell II’s user interface. You’ll work with existing UI systems and also contribute design thinking to ensure our interface is clean, functional, and immersive.

You’ll collaborate closely with other teams at the studio to bring menus, HUD, inventory, and in-game prompts to life and make sure they feel great to use.

This is a game dev role. We appreciate all creative backgrounds, but for this position, we’re specifically looking for candidates with prior game development experience. If you haven’t worked on a game (shipped or in development), this probably isn’t the right fit.

What You’ll Do:

  • Implement UI elements in Unreal Engine 5 using UMG and Blueprints
  • Support bugfixing, polish, and performance improvements as we head toward release
  • Work within our existing UI architecture, learning custom systems and tools
  • Help wire up visual assets from the art team into fully functioning in-game interfaces
  • Collaborate with design and art teams to improve UX, functionality, and consistency
  • Participate in feedback loops, iterate quickly, and problem-solve technical challenges

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5 UI tools (UMG, Blueprints)
  • Understands UX best practices: layout, flow, responsiveness, accessibility
  • Is comfortable working within a pre-existing UI system and gradually owning more of it
  • Can debug interface issues and contribute to a clean final release
  • Is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and communicates well in a collaborative team
  • Has a strong interest in games and cares about delivering a refined player experience

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience shipping a game or interactive project
  • Familiarity with Git or version control systems
  • UI/UX prototyping experience (Figma, Adobe XD, etc.)
  • Generalist ability to help in other areas of QA, tech art, or support as needed
