The Coalition for Food and Health Equity is seeking a highly organized and personable professional who will work to assist, grow, and strengthen CFHE’s nutrition community based food programs. As part of a dynamic team, you will help operate seasonal farm stands that bring fresh, affordable produce to neighborhoods that may otherwise lack access. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about food justice, enjoy engaging with the public, and want to be part of a mission-driven initiative that centers health, sustainability, and community connection. You’ll be at the forefront of creating a welcoming environment for customers, assisting with setup and breakdown, handling produce and transactions, and sharing information about healthy, seasonal food. This is a customer service position that combines retail skills with community engagement and is a great fit for someone who is dependable, enthusiastic, and committed to making a local impact.
Role and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer the Farm Stand Assistant has the following responsibilities and duties:
Farmers Stand
● Attend farm stands and help with set up, stocking and cleaning up.
● Set up and break down the farm stand, including tents, tables, and signage.
● Ensure all items are neatly displayed, labeled, and handled with care.
● Keep the stand clean, organized, and free of hazards.
● Report any incidents, damaged goods, or supply shortages to the manager.
● Work collaboratively with other program staff.
● Support unloading, packing, and storage of farm stand materials.
Community Outreach and Customer Service
● Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
● Answer questions about produce, seasonal offerings, and farm stand missions.
● Educate customers on healthy food choices and locally grown produce.
● Participate in occasional farm stand events, workshops, or outreach activities.
Skills and Qualifications:
● Friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic about local food and community health.
● 3+ years experience in retail, customer service, or food handling preferred.
● Able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
● Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
● Strong communication and basic math skills.
● Bilingual (especially Spanish or another locally spoken language) is a plus.
● Interest in food justice, health equity, wellness, and food insecurity
● Excellent oral, time management and written communication skills

● Strong attention to detail and multitasking capabilities
Schedule and Compensation
Job Type: Part-time, in person
Pay: $19hr/10-12 hrs/wk
Schedule: Seasonal, Wednesdays to Thursdays, some weekends
Travel: 100% [must have reliable transportation]
Location: Hudson County
$19 - $19 per hour
