Position Summary

The Outside Sales Representative is a professional position responsible for generating new business by identifying, prospecting, and securing clients who have experienced large property loss (residential or commercial) and require representation in the insurance claims process. This is a self-starter role that combines consultative sales skills with a working knowledge of property insurance claims to build trust with policyholders, explain the value of public adjusting services, and convert leads into signed representation agreements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to inbound leads and claim referrals to assess client needs and present the company's services.
  • Prospect and generate new client leads through cold calling, networking, relationship building, and use of the company's lead qualification resources.
  • Travel to residential and commercial loss sites to assess the severity and context of the property loss and determine the suitability for the company's representation. 
  • Confirm that potential clients have adequate property insurance coverage and, when appropriate, explain the claims process and how the company can help maximize recovery.
  • Educate property owners on the public adjusting process, scope of representation, and fee arrangement in order to secure signed contracts.
  • Accurately document all client interactions, lead sources, and sales activity in required systems and collaborate internally to ensure a smooth handoff of signed clients into the claims handling process.
  • Build and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations who may facilitate introductions to property owners who could benefit from the company's services, including through participation in industry events when beneficial to business development and lead generation.
  • Maintain working knowledge of insurance claims adjusting, property damage recovery, industry norms, ethics, and practices.
  • Meet or exceed established sales and production goals while collaborating internally to achieve shared business goals.  
  • Comply with public adjuster agent licensing regulations.
  • Assist in obtaining reviews and testimonials from clients. 
  • Contribute to the improvement of workflows, communication templates, training materials, and operational processes related to sales and client service.


Basic Minimum Qualifications

The following are the basic minimum qualifications an applicant must possess to be considered for this position.

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in sales, property insurance claims, construction, restoration, or a related client-facing field.
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screen, in addition to state insurance department licensing background requirements, where applicable.
  • Physically able and willing to navigate property loss sites affected by fire, water, or other catastrophic damage.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license. 
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel up to 75% of the time within Ohio and surrounding states.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when representing the company.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree.
  • Five years or more experience in sales, property insurance claims or public adjusting, construction, restoration, or a related client-facing field.
  • Working knowledge of large loss residential and commercial property insurance claims processes.
  • Established referral network within the local property/restoration/legal/insurance community.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven success with cold calling and consultative sales, including engaging and qualifying leads, communicating value, handling objections, and converting prospects into clients.
  • Strong interpersonal sales skills, including establishing trust and demonstrating empathy, while maintaining focus on advancing the sale.
  • Self-motivated and effective at remaining productive and accountable while working in a remote environment.
  • Able to independently manage a flexible, field-based schedule, including evenings and weekends, as business opportunities dictate.
  • Proficient using CRM software, email, social media, and mobile technology.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires regular travel to client homes and businesses, which may include job sites affected by fire, water, wind, or storm damage. The employee must be able to walk property exteriors and enter partially damaged structures. PPE will be provided and must be worn as required.


Compensation

This position is compensated on a base salary and sales commission basis. On-target first-year compensation is $75,000 to $125,000, with uncapped potential for additional earnings based on sales performance. Specific commission rates and payment terms will be detailed in the offer letter and applicable compensation agreement.
