About the Role

Civica Law Group is looking for a mid-level attorney with civil litigation experience with a preferred emphasis in public entity defense and an active California Bar license to join our team.

Our areas of practice focus on serving and defending cities, counties, and other public entities in matters involving general liability, law enforcement, premises liability and others. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys and gain exposure to a variety of issues involving public safety,  and local government.

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented legal professional eager to make a meaningful impact.

What You'll Do

• Defend civil litigation matters for public-agency clients
• Conduct legal research and draft motions as needed
• Prepare and respond to discovery requests
• Conduct and defend depositions
• Work with attorneys and paralegals on case strategy
• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and other stakeholders
• Independently manage daily tasks and deadlines on multiple matters
• Strategize with team input on resolution through motion practice, settlement, or trial

What We're Looking For

• Active California State Bar license in good standing
• Experience drafting discovery and responses to discovery
• Experience taking and defending depositions
• Independent day-to-day file handling ability with partner involvement as needed
• Ability to handle client communication and timely reporting
• Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent organization and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and sound judgment
• Familiarity with Public Entity Defense a plus
• Trial prep and/or trial experience a plus
• Interest in local government, public safety, school districts
