About the Role

Civica Law Group is looking for a certified Paralegal on our Tort Defense side to join our team.

This role will work with our Defense Litigation team, supporting public-agency clients. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys and gain exposure to a variety of issues involving public safety, code enforcement, and local government.

This position will require the candidate to work closely with the litigation attorneys to manage cases by calendaring and monitoring deadlines, assisting with drafting pleadings, discovery, and motions, preparing discovery and medical record summaries, communicating with vendors such as court reporters and experts. The role may also assist with preparation for hearings and trials as needed. 

What You'll Do

• Work closely with litigation attorneys to manage and support assigned cases
• Calendar and monitor case deadlines, hearings, filings, and other important dates
• Assist with preparing pleadings, discovery, motions, and other legal documents
• Prepare and organize discovery, medical records, and other case materials
• Prepare summaries of medical records, discovery responses, depositions, and other case information
• Assist attorneys with trial and deposition preparation
• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court reporters, experts, medical providers, and other parties as needed
• Coordinate depositions, hearings, expert matters, and other litigation-related activities
• Maintain accurate and organized case files and track case activity

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of civil litigation and tort defense experience
• Candidate must have their paralegal certificate or degree in applicable paralegal studies 
• Strong ability to handle multiple tasks and roles at a given time
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Someone who is adaptable and possesses solid organizational, writing, and analytical skills
• Strong communication skills and sound judgment
• Interest in local government, public safety, or code enforcement
