At City Innovations, we build the right thing. As our Experience Design Lead, you'll be the driving force behind our data-informed approach to creating impactful products. Your role will be to discover and transform market insights into actionable product strategies and design user-centered experiences that drive engagement and growth. Leveraging your expertise in UX/CX best practices and design tools, you'll craft user personas, journey maps, and high-fidelity prototypes that resonate with our target audiences.


Our core frameworks including Lean Canvas, Jobs to Be Done, and Design Sprints, will help you validate product concepts and collaborate with the venture teams to bring data-driven innovations to market faster. You'll serve as the crucial link between user needs and product development, ensuring our ventures are both innovative and market-validated.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Initial market research to gather insights on consumers, competitors, and market trends and refine product designs and user experiences accordingly.
  • Translate research insights into intuitive UX/CX artifacts and high-fidelity prototypes, creating user personas, journey maps, and wireframes.
  • Develop and lead UX design teams  in the creation of high-fidelity prototypes
  • Lead the UX/CX design process, creating intuitive and engaging user interfaces that align with product strategies and user needs. 
  • Develop and execute data-driven strategies to boost user acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Design and run A/B tests and experiments to optimize growth tactics and user experience.
  • Formulate and execute rapid learning strategies to validate critical business and product assumptions.
  • City Innovations’ Framework Application and Execution:
  • Utilize the Lean Canvas for rapid business model validation, identifying viable market opportunities and defining clear, measurable metrics.
  • Apply the Jobs to Be Done framework to deeply understand client needs and tailor solutions that directly address those needs.
  • Conduct experiments and validations using the Market Validation Funnel to refine product features and market strategies.
  • Facilitate Google Design Sprints to rapidly prototype and test ideas, reducing time to market and enhancing product-market fit.
  • Work closely with Venture Architects, Product Managers, and development teams to ensure research insights and UX/CX designs are effectively incorporated into product development.
  • Contribute to the creation of pitch decks, client presentations, and company assets showcasing the data-driven approach behind our venture strategies.
  • Stay ahead of market developments and competitor activities, adapting strategies to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet the City Innovations quality standards and are delivered on time and within budget.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in UX/UI design and research, data analysis, and growth hacking, preferably in a fast-paced startup or consultancy environment.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Centered Design, Technology, Data Science, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of using data-driven insights to inform product strategy and drive growth.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on strategic thinking and problem-solving.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to present complex data in an accessible manner.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and lean startup principles.


Work Environment - Office

In this role, your primary work environment will be your home office, complemented by our co-working space in Grand Rapids, MI. Our teams work virtually but co-work is expected between 9am to 5pm Eastern.
