The Christopher Street Project (CSP) was founded in January 2025 in response to the escalating political attacks on trans people. CSP envisions a future in America where trans rights are never up for negotiation. CSP builds and leverages collective power for transgender people across the country. We work to hold policymakers accountable on their commitments to trans people, and fight back against attacks on our existence.

Role: Fall Internship 

Reports to: Deputy Executive Director 

Compensation: $18.50 per hour 

Term: September 13th - December 11th, 2026

Classification: Part-time, limited-term


Internship Overview: 

The Fall Intern will support the Christopher Street Project team, gaining hands-on experience in public policy, grassroots organizing, and electoral politics. The Fall Internship is an entry-level role with significant learning opportunities, designed to build foundational knowledge of programming for an organization. Over the duration of their internship, it is the goal of the Intern to gain experience and knowledge related to community outreach, legislative, and electoral efforts. 


Application to the Internship Program is competitive, and an ongoing interest in public policy, grassroots organizing, and electoral politics is strongly recommended. Applicants must have strong interpersonal communication, writing, and computer skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and take initiative, and strong organizational skills. The ideal applicant may have previous organizing experience and familiarity with Capitol Hill is recommended but not required.


Christopher Street Project internships are part-time, paid at $18.50/hour for the fall term. Christopher Street Project is happy to work with students to gain school credit for their internship experience. The internship is 10-15 hours maximum per week and is primarily remote. Applicants located within the DMV area will be prioritized. Graduate school level applicants are highly encouraged to apply. Personal experience with the issue area is strongly preferred.


Intern General Responsibilities:

  • Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling.
  • Draft legislative briefs and vote recommendations.
  • Assist during lobby days on Capitol Hill. 
  • Update legislative tracking materials.
  • Draft press statements.
  • Research various elections and draft race overview documents.
  • Assist in contacting and recruiting event participants and volunteers.
  • Research and draft resources and toolkits for external stakeholders.
  • Research potential partner organizations and organizing networks.
  • Attend coalition meetings and affiliate webinars.
  • Help maintain the website.
  • Research potential marketing ideas.
  • Aid in drafting and calendaring of marketing materials.
  • Assist with ad hoc mobilization and marketing initiatives.
  • 1:1s and professional development with senior leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Intern Compensation: 

  • $18.50 per hour with a maximum of 15 hours per week
