The Director of Development serves as the strategic leader of all fundraising and philanthropic initiatives for Community Storehouse. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this position is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that ensures the organization's long-term financial sustainability and supports its mission of serving children and families in our community.

Description

The Director of Development cultivates meaningful relationships with donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community leaders while leading a high-performing development team. This role is responsible for growing philanthropic revenue through diversified funding sources, strengthening donor engagement, increasing community awareness, and advancing Community Storehouse's strategic priorities.


Essential Responsibilities


Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO to establish annual fundraising goals aligned with the organization's strategic plan and operating budget.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive annual Development Plan that supports both current operations and future growth.

  • Identify emerging fundraising trends and implement innovative strategies that strengthen organizational sustainability.
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to organizational planning and decision-making.


Donor Relations & Fundraising

  • Build, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors and prospective donors.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive donor stewardship and communication plans that demonstrate the impact of philanthropic investments.
  • Inspire and motivate individuals, businesses, foundations, and community partners to invest in the mission of Community Storehouse.
  • Manage and expand corporate giving and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including grants and collaborative partnerships.
  • Ensure timely donor recognition and meaningful stewardship activities.


Community Engagement

  • Serve as an ambassador for Community Storehouse throughout the community.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with local businesses, civic organizations, schools, churches, foundations, and community leaders.
  • Represent the organization at community events, networking functions, chambers of commerce, Rotary clubs, women's organizations, and other civic groups.
  • Secure speaking engagements and cultivate opportunities to increase visibility and community support.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to promote fundraising campaigns, organizational impact, newsletters, social media, and donor communications.


Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Development Department, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
  • Directly supervise the Development Manager and provide strategic oversight of fundraising events.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate development and public relations staff as needed.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure fundraising initiatives align with organizational priorities and program needs.


Financial Management & Reporting

  • Develop and manage the annual Development Department budget.
  • Participate as an active member of the Finance Committee.
  • Monitor fundraising performance through data analysis, donor metrics, and key performance indicators.
  • Prepare regular reports for the CEO, Board of Directors, and Development Committee regarding fundraising progress, campaign effectiveness, donor retention, and revenue projections.
  • Ensure accurate donor records and effective utilization of the donor database.


Qualifications


Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional fundraising experience with a demonstrated record of increasing philanthropic revenue.
  • Proven success managing and growing a comprehensive development program.
  • Experience cultivating and soliciting major gifts.
  • Exceptional relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and strategic planning abilities.
  • Experience developing and managing departmental budgets.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor management software (CRM).


Preferred

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential.
  • Experience with grant writing and foundation relations.
  • Knowledge of Google Ad Grants and basic graphic design platforms such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience managing fundraising campaigns and nonprofit marketing initiatives.
  • Experience working with nonprofit boards and volunteer leadership.

Salary

$70,000 - $75,000 per year
