At our nature-based preschool in Austin, we create a learning environment that fosters independence, curiosity, creativity, and compassion. We believe that play is the cornerstone of early learning and that nature is one of our greatest teachers. Our classrooms are full of natural and open-ended materials and every class spends much of the day outdoors. Children's Discovery Center South is located near Ben White (Hwy 290/71) and Mopac on a large, beautiful, oak-shaded lot. CDC South, offers a home-like setting in large, naturally lit classrooms, large shaded outdoor play areas, greenbelt access for hiking, and a pool for pre-K.

Children's Discovery Center in South Austin is looking for full time or part-time afternoon infant, toddler, or preschool teachers to join our wonderful community of learners and explorers.


  • Experience working with children is highly recommended but not required if other qualifications are met. Applicants with experience in licensed childcare will be given priority.
  • Education in early childhood development is highly recommended but not required.
  • Compensation is set with a scale beginning at $18/hrs for full-time preschool/toddler teachers and increases based on your level of education and experience. Substitute teachers are offered 17.00 hourly.
  • Our hours of operation are 7:30am-5:30pm, we are open Monday-Friday. Full-time shifts are typically 6-7.5 hours.
  • Job Description: As a Teacher at Children's Discovery Center, you are responsible for creating a curriculum and guidance in your classroom that are developmentally appropriate and supportive for the children in your care. This includes but is not limited to the maintenance of the physical classroom and playground environments, communication with families and ongoing training and learning in child development related topics.


The classrooms at CDC are structured so that Teachers work together in cooperation with one another to provide their children with a wonderful and meaningful experience at school. Our classrooms follow a co-teaching model where all Teachers assigned to a classroom (typically 2-3) have the responsibility of ensuring the management of each aspect of their classroom. This classroom structure requires Teachers to communicate effectively with one another in order to come to consensus as to the management of the classroom affairs.


Salary

$17 - $24 per hour
