Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture Communications and Community Engagement Intern Remote · Part time

The Philadelphia Center, a program managed by the Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture, seeks a dynamic self-starter to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity for a current student or recent graduate to experience various aspects of marketing while working for an established urban experiential education organization. The primary responsibility of the Communications and Community Engagement Intern is to support the promotion of organizational initiatives, recruitment, and ongoing communication with alumni, prospective students, donors, and staff, as well as the development and photo/video documentation of community-building opportunities to encourage bonding among TPC students. Other duties may also be assigned as needed.

Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing and Communications

  • Assist with updating and maintaining TPC’s social media presence, with special attention to building TPC’s presence on Instagram and posting content 2-3 times per week
  • Assist in planning, writing, managing monthly newsletter 
  • Assist with the design of flyers, graphics, and other marketing material as assigned using Canva
  • Assist with updating the TPC websites when needed
  • Assist with the cataloging of photo and video content for both The Philadelphia Center and The Chicago Center
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas and directions for marketing and communications

Community Engagement

  • Coordinate with the TPC Deputy Director and faculty members to document, using photo or video, student experiences/learning in courses and other program activities
  • Support the planning and implementation of monthly community-building opportunities at the direction of the TPC Deputy Director

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, or Graphic Design)
  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space; proven experience with Instagram is a plus
  • Experience using Canva to create social media content
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Working knowledge of Hubspot (or similar CRM).
  • An effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the Philadelphia Center/Chicago Center
