Part-Time Legal Assistant (Bankruptcy Practice)

Location: Roanoke, VA (Primarily Remote)

Employment Type: Part-Time with Potential for Full-Time


About the Role

 

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support our growing bankruptcy practice based in Roanoke, Virginia. This position is primarily work-from-home, offering flexibility while still maintaining a connection to the office. The selected candidate will be expected to visit the office several times per week to handle incoming and outgoing mail and complete certain in-person administrative tasks.


This role is ideal for someone who is organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently, with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position as the practice expands.


Key Responsibilities

 

  • Answer incoming calls to schedule appointments
  • Communicate with clients to collect documents and provide updates on their cases
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure timely filings with the bankruptcy court
  • Maintain and organize electronic files and documents
  • Retrieve, sort, and process mail from the office multiple times per week
  • Draft correspondence and routine legal documents
  • Perform general administrative tasks, including scheduling and data entry


Qualifications

 

  • Prior experience as a legal assistant or in an administrative role preferred
  • Bankruptcy experience (Chapter 7 and/or Chapter 13) is a strong plus, but not required
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Empathy for working with individuals in difficult situations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required (proficiency in case management systems such as Clio and Best Case a plus)
  • Dependable transportation to visit the Roanoke office several times per week
  • High level of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information


Work Schedule

 

  • Part-time (approximately 18-20 hours per week, 3-4 days per week to start)
  • Some schedule flexibility within office hours, with regular weekly trips to the office required
  • Opportunity for increased hours and transition to full-time based on business needs
