Position Summary
Centrillium Protein is seeking an experienced Utilities Maintenance Supervisor to lead the operation, maintenance, and reliability of our plant utility systems. This position is responsible for supervising utility operations, including ammonia refrigeration, industrial boilers, compressed air systems, HVAC, water systems, and other plant utilities, while ensuring compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent troubleshooting skills, and experience supervising maintenance personnel in a manufacturing or food processing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the utilities maintenance team.
- Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Oversee the safe operation and maintenance of industrial boilers and steam systems.
- Maintain compressed air systems, air compressors, dryers, receivers, and distribution equipment.
- Monitor and maintain HVAC, water, and other facility utility systems.
- Develop and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs for utility equipment.
- Respond to equipment failures and utility emergencies to minimize production downtime.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, USDA, IIAR, and applicable safety regulations.
- Maintain ammonia refrigeration safety procedures, inspections, and documentation.
- Coordinate outside contractors for repairs, inspections, and specialized maintenance.
- Experience operating and maintaining industrial wastewater treatment systems in a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience with dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems, pumps, chemical feed systems, and wastewater processes is strongly preferred..
- Train, coach, and develop maintenance technicians on safe work practices and technical procedures.
- Ensure all work orders and maintenance records are completed accurately.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase equipment reliability and reduce operating costs.
- Participate in emergency response activities, including ammonia emergency response procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, HVAC, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Ammonia Refrigeration Certification is required.
- Strong working knowledge of industrial boiler operations and steam systems.
- Experience maintaining compressed air systems and related equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Ammonia Refrigeration Certification is required.
- Boiler Operator License or equivalent certification (preferred).
- EPA Refrigerant Certification (preferred).
- Experience in USDA or food manufacturing facilities.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance planning and reliability programs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures.
- Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies when needed.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when necessary.
