The Youth Outreach Coordinator at the Center for Independent Living will engage with schools and community agencies in Oakland to expand programs for disabled youth, lead workshops on self-advocacy and independent living, and develop new curriculum based on emerging needs and personal expertise.
About CIL
Founded in 1972, the Center for Independent Living (CIL) was the first independent living center in the U.S.
Led by and for people with disabilities, CIL has been at the forefront of disability advocacy, contributing to landmark legislation like the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA. We provide essential services such as advocacy, housing assistance, and assistive technology, and have expanded to include Residential Access, Emergency Preparedness, Benefits Counseling, and Youth Programs.
CIL continues to be a model for over 400 independent living centers nationwide and in 20 countries, supporting diverse disabilities, promoting independence, and forging a path towards a more inclusive and just society with Access For All.
About the role
CIL’s Youth Program supports young people with disabilities (ages 14-26, up to 30) in their transition to post-secondary life, including education, employment, and community living.
We are seeking a Youth Outreach Coordinator to join our team and lead community engagement efforts. This position will focus on building and nurturing relationships with schools and community agencies, with a special focus on the Oakland area.
As the Youth Outreach Coordinator, you will collaborate with the Youth Program Coordinator to develop strategies for expanding our programs and services. You will lead workshops both in-person and virtually on topics such as self-advocacy, independent living, media literacy, Disability Rights and Justice, and more. You'll also have the opportunity to create new workshops and curriculums that reflect your expertise and the evolving needs of disabled youth in the community.
