Conduct legal research and analysis on issues pertaining to climate liability. More specifically, conduct research and write long-form legal analysis of key legal issues relevant to ongoing litigation, new theories of liability, and other strategies/means of engagement; Monitor ongoing climate liability litigation and the broader legal landscape; Assist in the preparation of amicus curiae briefs in climate liability cases; Assist in the development of programs/events that educate the legal community on the need for climate accountability; and Provide assistance to the General Counsel on various matters to ensure the organization’s compliance with laws and regulations.

Overview


The Center for Climate Integrity (CCI) seeks a staff attorney to support the organization’s mission to hold oil and gas corporations accountable for the massive costs of climate change. 


The ideal candidate for this opportunity will have 2-5 years of experience as a legal practitioner working on environmental, climate and/or corporate accountability issues, excellent legal research and analysis skills, and the ability to build relationships and collaborate across disciplines. Reporting directly to one of CCI’s Managing Attorneys, the Staff Attorney will play a critical role in the legal team, which provides legal and strategic support on a range of issues relevant to climate liability cases and related campaigns.



Description


  • Conduct legal research and analysis on issues pertaining to climate liability. More specifically, conduct research and write long-form legal analysis of key legal issues relevant to ongoing litigation, new theories of liability, and other strategies/means of engagement;
  • Monitor ongoing climate liability litigation and the broader legal landscape;
  • Assist in the preparation of amicus curiae briefs in climate liability cases;
  • Assist in the development of programs/events that educate the legal community on the need for climate accountability; and
  • Provide assistance to the General Counsel on various matters to ensure the organization’s compliance with laws and regulations.


Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school;
  • 2-5 years as a legal practitioner working on environmental, climate and/or corporate accountability issues;
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and presentation skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with staff and stakeholders across a decentralized organization;
  • A flexible approach to work with a willingness to travel, as needed; and
  • Familiarity with impact litigation, issue advocacy, and/or governmental affairs.

Technology Requirements

CCI is an all-remote organization, and candidates will need to arrange for some of their own infrastructure and tools.  A laptop computer and cell phone will be provided, but the selected candidate will be required to have access to:

Compensation and Benefits

  • CCI salaries are based on the organization’s job classification system.  The classification system consists of salary ranges which are updated annually based on market data.
